Chattanooga Sweeps Wahoos

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos lost a doubleheader against the Chattanooga Lookout and was swept in the five-game series for the second time in franchise history to the Lookouts since 2013.
Chattanooga won the doubleheader against Pensacola Sunday, 4-2, and, 3-2, at AT&T Field.
Pensacola has lost 12 of its last 14 games and is now 15-15 this season, which is tied for first with the Mississippi Braves in the Southern League South Division.
In the first game, Chattanooga scored three runs in the sixth inning to overcome a 2-1 Pensacola lead to win, 4-2.
Chattanooga first baseman Travis Harrison hit a two-run single in the sixth inning, leading the Lookouts to a 4-2 win over the Blue Wahoos in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday.
A single by DH Travis Harrison, part of a three-run inning, gave the Lookouts a 3-2 lead before third baseman Ryan Walker hit an RBI triple later in the inning.
The Blue Wahoos had taken a 2-1 lead when center fielder Tyler Goeddel hit an RBI single, bringing home right fielder Aristides Aquino in the second inning.
Deck McGuire dropped to 1-2 on the season when he gave up four runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings. McGuire gave up one walk and struck out six in his outing. He is now 1-2 on the year with a 4.01 ERA.
In the second game, Blue Wahoos reliever Brennan Bernardino gave up a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to allow Chattanooga to sweep the double header with a 3-2 victory. He gave up a single to DH LaMonte Wade to center field that drove in right fielder Edgar Corcino.
In the second game, Austin Ross worked seven innings, allowed two runs, one earned on five hits, walked four and struck out six. His ERA is now 0.87, which leads the Southern League.
The Pensacola pitching staff leads the league in earned-run average at 2.69.
Blue Wahoos center fielder Tyler Goeddel was 4-7 in the double header with one run scored and two RBIs to lead Pensacola at the plate. Meanwhile, shortstop Blake Trahan was 3-7 with one RBI and a double, his third of the season.
Myrtle Lee Micari

Myrtle Lee Micari, born March 7, 1927, of Cantonment, Florida, went to her eternal home on May 3, 2017, at the age of 90.
Myrtle is preceded by her parents Jesse and Ida Thompson, sisters, Mary Scott and Betty Jean; daughter, Arlene Micari; son, Eugene Micari; and daughter, Cynthia Williams.
She will be lovingly remembered by her brother, James Thompson and his wife Catherine; her son, Joseph Micari, his daughters, Kelly, Nicole, Heather and Corine; her daughter, Dolores Micari; her son, Conrad Micari, his children Jesse and ReAnna; her son Craig’s children, Sean and Scott and her daughter Xynthia’s child, Christopher — along with her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Myrtle was a loving and caring mother to her children and grandchildren. She reveled in the moments when everyone came together around the table. She was adventurous and loved camping and road trips, but most comfortable in the kitchen cooking for family and friends or gardening in the sun around her home.
The visitation will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens, 7433 Pine Forest Rd, Pensacola, Florida, 32526 on May 9, 2017, from 1:00 – 2:00, with service to follow at 2:00 p.m. A gathering for family and friends will take place after the service at 230 Williams Ditch Rd, Cantonment, Florida 32533.
Two Airlifted After Highway 29 Wreck In McDavid

Two Pensacola residents were airlifted to area hospitals after a single vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Highway 29 at Highway 164 in McDavid.
The Florida Highway Patrol said 40-year old Sarah Walton of Pensacola was southbound on Highway 29 in a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban when she swerved to miss an unknown vehicle that pulled in front of her.
The Suburban left the roadway, struck a sign, entered a deep ditch and overturned several time. The roof of the vehicle hit a utility pole before the vehicle came to rest upright in the ditch. Two people in the Suburban were trapped until being extricated by firefighters. One male, a backseat passenger, was trapped until firefighters were able cut off and remove the roof from the vehicle.
Jay Byfield, 32, and Jared Leve, 37, both of Pensacola, were airlifted by LifeGuard and LifeFlight helicopters to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola in serious condition. Passenger Christina Walton, age 37 of Pensacola, was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital with minor injuries.
Driver Sarah Walton was not injured in the 2:24 p.m. crash.
The accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Escambia County EMS and the McDavid Station of Escambia Fire Rescue also responded to the crash.

Good Samaritans Save Injured Eagle
May 7, 2017
Good Samaritans worked to save a an eagle Saturday near Cantonment.
The injured eagle was left in the roadway after it flew into a car ahead of Alexis Rivers on Beulah Road, near the Perdido Landfill. The eagle did not try to get out of the road, so Alexis’ husband Rotario stepped up to carefully move it off of the asphalt.
The eagle is now recovering at the Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida.

Northview Runners Place At State Meet; Spencer In Fifth

A Northview runner was on the winner’s stand Saturday at the state meet in in Bradenton, FL.
Brandon Spencer placed fifth in the state Saturday in the boy’s 200 meters.
Last year, he attended the state meet as a spectator, and this year he is coming home with a medal,” said Northview coach Natalie Nall. “He worked over outside of the season to earn this. I’m proud of this work ethic and dedication.

Large Crowds Attend Century’s Sawmill Festival And Car Show (With Photo Galleries)

Large crowds attended the Alger-Sullivan Historical Society’s 27th Sawmill Day and Car Show in Century Saturday in Century’s Historic District.
The day included a vintage and custom car show organized by the Bad Boys Car Club, plus arts and crafts booths, and plenty of historic exhibits. Boston Butt sandwich meals were available, and entertainment was scheduled all day.
