Atmore Shops And Celebrates With ‘Santa On Main’ Event

Residents of Atmore and surrounding areas enjoyed downtown shopping and Christmas fun during Santa on Main Thursday evening in downtown Atmore.

The event featured photos with Santa, extended shopping hours and bargains from downtown merchants, a horse drawn carriage, caroling, free chili and more.

Subway All-Star Football Game Is Tonight

Tonight, the best seniors from Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties will play in the 14th annual Subway High School All-Star Football Game.  For the second time in the 14 years of the All-Star football game, the game will be held at Blue Wahoos Stadium.

The coaching staff for the west team will be  Head Coach Derek Marshman of Northview High Schoolm and he will be assisted by a representative from each school in Escambia County.

The coaching staff for the east team; will be Head Coach Phil Dorn of Fort Walton Beach High School, and he will be assisted by a representative from each participating school in Okaloosa and Santa Rosa County.

Tickets to the SUBWAY High School All-Star Game are $11 at the gate and $9 with a canned good item donation. Pensacola Sports is teaming with Manna Food Bank for a canned good drive and encouraging everyone to help families by bringing a canned good item.

Gates open at 6:00, kickoff is at 7:00.

Mrs. Sally Foster, age 86, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 in Atmore, Alabama.

Mrs. Foster was native of Bay Minette, Alabama and resided in Atmore, Alabama.

Survivors include her nephew, Roy (Billie) Foster; special friend, Kelly White Downey and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held Friday, December 15, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Lottie Methodist Cemetery will Bro. Angelo Thomley officiating.

Thomas Aubrey Pugh, Sr.

December 15, 2017

Mr. Thomas Aubrey Pugh, Sr., age 89, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Century Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Pugh was born in Jay, FL and had been a resident of the Brewton area since 1964, coming from Mobile, AL. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He worked as a millwright at the paper mill for a number of years. He was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. Mr. Pugh was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Barbara Louise Meadows Pugh.

He is survived by a son, Thomas Aubrey (Marcia) Pugh of Elkton, FL; a daughter, Barbara Faye (Frank) Barnes of Brewton, AL; a step-daughter, Deborah Ann (Keith) McClammy of Robertsdale, AL; a brother, Calvin Pugh of Pensacola, FL; two sisters, Betty Lou Hammons, and Edna Faye Rowell, both of Mobile, AL; seven grandchildren, Melanie McClammy, Jennifer Blackwell, Kinny Pugh, Brad Blackwell, Kelli King, Bobby Cannon, and Ben Pugh; five great-grandchildren, Braden Blackwell, Brody Blackwell, K.K. King, Grace King, and Noell King.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Rev. Virginia Beckham officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Jay, FL.

Visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home on Friday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.

Pallbearers: Nick Bell, Brad Blackwell, Kinny Pugh, Bernard Blackwell, Frank Barnes, and Frank Reid.

Cecil Hugh Driver, Sr.

Mr. Cecil Hugh Driver, Sr. age 81 of McDavid, FL passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, FL.

Mr. Driver was born in Bogia, FL and was a life-long member of the community where he was a member of McDavid United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served three years. Mr. Driver was employed by Monsanto Corporation and retired after 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kynette and Beulah Mae Raines Driver and a brother, Benjamin Driver.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Josie Driver of McDavid, FL; sons, Cecil (Cindy) Driver, Jr, of Molino, FL and Carlton Scott (Tracee) Driver of Jay, FL; daughter, Cheryl (David) Beck of Lake Mary, FL; brother, Russell Driver of McDavid, FL; sisters, Velda Chancery of Pensacola, FL and Norma (Homer) Thompson of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Valerie Lollie, Nick Driver, Cody Driver, Jennifer Beck, Jessie Beck, Camille Diver; four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 6 to 8 PM.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at McDavid United Methodist Church at 2 PM with Rev. Ted Johnson officiating.

Interment will follow in Ray’s Chapel Cemetery, Bogia, FL.

Pallbearers will be Nick Driver, Cody Driver, Jackie Godwin, John Godwin, Harry Heard, Lee Batman.

Mary Blair

December 15, 2017

Mary Blair, age 95, went home to her heavenly father Thursday, December 14, 2017.

Mary was born in Walnut Hill, FL to Jim and Bamma King.  She was a longtime member of Century First Baptist Church and she was a faithful and supportive military wife. Her favorite thing in life was being a grandmother.  She was completely devoted to her family and she loved life and lived everyday to the fullest.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Blair; parents, Jim King and  Bamma King and multiple brothers and sisters.

Mary is survived by her son, Jimmie Dagen (Melinda); daughter-in-law, Peggy Dagen; grand-daughters, Pam Dagen and Deniece Woodson (Rick); fourt great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother; two sisters and multiple nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place Sunday, November 17, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. with services to follow at 2:00 p.m.  Interment to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, Tuesday, December 19. 2017, at 12:00 noon.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Woodson, Richard Williams, Charlie Klock, Derrek Czoch, Junior Garmin and Jason Nicholson.  Gus Spurigo will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Larry Lyle Mueller

On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, Larry Lyle Mueller eeparted on Eternal Patrol unexpectedly at the age of 75 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. He was born September 19, 1942, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He grew up on a farm in Cadott, Wisconsin, graduated from high school, and enlisted in the US Navy. Larry served in the US Navy as a fire control technician, first reporting to surface ship USS Cavalier (APA 82). This was followed by two long tours on submarine USS Daniel Boone (SSBN 629), reporting as a Second Class on his first tour and as Chief of the Boat on his second tour. He also served on submarine tenders, USS Hunley (AS 31) and USS Proteus (AS 19). After serving 25 years, he retired, having achieved the much respected rank of Master Chief.

Putting down roots in Cantonment, Florida, he was employed at the US Post Office for 20 years. He purchased a tract of land in Barth, Florida where he had a tree farm. He also raised commercial catfish and even fed the deer. He was active in his church at Charity Chapel and was a member of USSVI where he served as Drum Base Commander and Chaplain.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kären; daughter Dawn (Brian); stepdaughter Karla; stepson Paul; brothers Don and David (Marie); sister Kathy; grandchildren Daniel, Riley, Michael, and Cooper; and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Mildred Mueller.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Larry’s life in February 2018.

Johny Bruce Dunsford

Mr. Johny Bruce Dunsford, age 81, of Bluff Springs, FL passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Baptist Hospital, Pensacola, FL.

Mr. Dunsford was born in Jay, FL and had been a life-long resident of the Bluff Springs community where he worked as a self-employed brick mason. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his sons, Timothy Dunsford of Jasper, AL and Steven (Thelma) Dunsford of Arley, AL; sister, Wanda Andrews of East Brewton, AL; grandchildren, Brandy Miles and Johnathon Dunsford; three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 11 AM until a 1 PM service time with Deacon Buck Harris officiating.

Interment will follow in Cora Cemetery, Jay, FL.
