Scott: Escambia County Added 2,700 Jobs Over The Past Year
December 24, 2017
Gov. Rick Scott has announced that the Escambia County area added 2,700 new private-sector jobs in the last year. The area’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.7 percent, down 1.1 percentage points from a year ago. Statewide, the unemployment rate remained at 3.6 percent, the lowest rate in more than a decade.
“Florida businesses across the state have created nearly 1.5 million new jobs since December 2010 and it is great news that our unemployment rate remains at a 10-year low. Every job created is an opportunity for a Floridian to achieve their dreams and we will continue to work each day to secure a strong future for our state,” Scott said.
The industries with the highest growth over the year in Escambia County were professional and business services with 1,600 new jobs and leisure and hospitality with 1,300 new jobs. The Escambia County area had 4,754 job openings in November, including 1,364 openings for high-skill, high-wage STEM occupations.
In the last year, 199,000 people entered Florida’s labor force, a growth of 2.0 percent. This rate is nearly three times the national labor force growth rate of only 0.7 percent. In November, 16,990 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Escarosa and the state’s other 23 local workforce boards.

Because our governor has adopted some of the policies Alabama uses, more large companies are coming to Florida. Thank you governor.
Thank you Governor Scott and thank you Navy Federal!
Thank you Governor Scott and President Trump. The article starts with “area added 2700 new private sector jobs.” Not government jobs and not a perfect number. I am very pleased with this. It’s a very positive report to be sure.
How many of these were state jobs turned over to contract agencies/
Just as President Trump predicted! It’s only going to get better- just like the stock market!
2700 jobs added but the industries with the highest growth created 1600 and 1300 jobs. Doesn’t that add to 2900 jobs in four areas?
