New Molino Road Bridge Opens, But Expect Delays
December 11, 2017
The new Molino Road Bridge over over Penasula Creek is now open. But motorists can still expect intermittent daytime lane closures Monday through Wednesday as workers complete minor construction activities on the project, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
Contractor F&W Construction Company started the $1,129,920.01 bridge replacement project on January 3 under a contract that gave the company 265 days for completion. The company was granted numerous time extensions by FDOT.
The old wood piling supported bridge was constructed in 1958 had reached a level of deterioration to warrant replacement and was next on the list of the FDOT’s Five-Year Work Plan. The project is being funded and the construction work is being performed under contract with the Florida Department of Transportation. After completion of the structure, Escambia County will be responsible for the maintenance of the bridge.

How do we go about getting the contract on the next Bridges so we can get rich and retire
Election time will come rolling round soon enough.
A practical demonstration in incompetence, is more than adequate to determine my vote.
I hear you “Les Bridges”
That’s a lot of $ and effort for 30 feet. Seems to me, a prefabricated box culvert, some back-fill, pavement and guard rails would have been a lot simpler, faster and cheaper. But that wouldn’t have transferred near as much tax payer money to the preferred vendors.
$1.13 Million and a year for a 30 foot bridge that drains about 600 acres; let that sink in for a while.
This is the “helicopter money” that Ben Bernanke was referring to.
This is the new “New Deal”.
I want my 40 acres and a mule!
Nice piece of work. Drove over it yesterday.
That’s one way to get around being fined for not completing it on time. They should NOT have been given any extensions if they would have started it on time instead of waiting 3 months to work on it. This bridge should be totally done by now.
What a pathetic joke now we see how our tax dollars are being spent this job could have been done in 2 months
HIP HIP HOORAY! No more concerns trying to turn left after the traffic light at 97 onto Crabtree! What a dangerous and often congested area.
So very happy to have this bridge completed and the road open again!
Gentlemen, start your engines !
