Century Town Council To Compete With National Championship Football Game

December 28, 2017

The Century Town Council has decided to take on the National Championship football game for local attention.

The council normally meets the first and third Monday nights of each month, but the first Monday of January is New Year’s Day. The council has voted to reschedule that meeting for 7 p.m. the following Monday, January 8.

So interested citizens will be forced to choose — watch the beginning of the College Football Playoff National Championship game live on ESPN from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, or attend the Century Town Council meeting live from council chambers.

“I have DirecTV,” council member Ben Boutwell quipped recently, jokingly referring to the ability to watch the game from the council chambers on a smartphone or tablet.

Last January, the council yielded to Alabama and Clemson and reschedule a meeting to avoid conflict with the National Championship game.

    Since sporting events seems to be such a big deal (not for me) hold the meeting on Saturday mornings. There will never be a perfect time for everyone.

    @mary

    also, that audit ????

    If the boulder is actually rolling down the hill, not sure I want to jump on or get in front of it until we see just what all that entails..

    God grant me the serenity
    to accept the things I cannot change;
    courage to change the things I can;
    and wisdom to know the difference.

    @Mary — Here’s a quote:

    “It is the civil society leaders who, in many ways, are going to have the more lasting impact,” President Obama said. “Because as the saying goes, the most important title is not ‘president’ or ‘prime minister’; the most important title is ‘citizen.’”

    Speaking to the Clinton Global Initiative in New York, NY, President Obama explained how the voice of one citizen can remind us why a civil society is so essential:

    **** Citizens remind us why civil society is so essential. When people are free to speak their minds and hold their leaders accountable, governments are more responsive and more effective. When entrepreneurs are free to create and develop new ideas, then economies are more innovative, and attract more trade and investment, and ultimately become more prosperous.****

    Citizen, you seem to have a handle on what should be done, why don’t you run for office?

    Hopefully they take the time to review these Triumph projects that were submitted by other small towns. See that theirs is not on it and get theirs on it next draw.

    The town consultant is not there to do it for you.

    The town could certainly use the help. Also see about the money the county is willing to fund since they didn’t fund the chamber of commerce. The 55K– Turn in the projects. The one to clean up the gateway would do well, even with modifications.

    Yes, it is the job of the elected board to do this. The Town council. The fabulous five!

    Happy New Year.

    Dear Willis: You are behind the game—-Alabama plays GA in a playoff game. Only one of them will advance to the Nat’l Championship game. I might be a girl—but I know how the process works…

    Absolutely no regard or desire in Century for public participation. They will do anything to make it difficult or inconvenient for the public to attend. Not consumer friendly. Not in the spirit of the sunshine law. And where is the public notice?

    Just might have a chance. Who wants to watch Georgia beat Alabama in the Championship game anyway..

    NOT!!!!
