November 5, 2017

An early Sunday morning accident on Quintette Road claimed the lives of two people.

The two-vehicle crash was reported about 2:45 a.m. on Quintette Road near Rocky Branch Road. Both drivers were pronounced deceased on the scene.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 31-year old Clayton Edward Shaffer of Pace was westbound on Quintette Road in a Dodge Dakota when he crossed the center line into the path of a Buick LeSabre  driven by 63-year old Larry Wayne Ellis of Milton. The vehicles collided head-on.

What good is there to find fault in an accident where nobody can pay the penalty. These two families are suffering enough due to this accident. I personally know one of the families and it pains me to see judgement and wanting to blame someone overcome compassion. Two people lost their lives and two children lost their daddy. That is what I see and feel. I am sorry this happened, I didn’t know the older gentleman but I did know Clay and my heartfelt condolences to both families in this time of sorrow.

This is a story about what may have happened. We do know that 2 people lost their lives. Be compassionate and stop all the controversy. We don’t know and the FHP doesn’t know at this point who was at fault. Whose to say that Shaffer was avoiding a hit to Ellis because Ellis was avoiding hitting an animal or vice versa. Our first reaction to running over or killing a large animal such as a deer is to avoid it. Whose to say that either one of those guys didn’t hit a deer first. Deer run off sometimes when they are hit. There won’t be any trace whatsoever. Ask my sister when her husband hit a deer once and the insurance company wanted proof. No evidence of any animal parts, blood or hair on the vehicle. The deer ran in to them.

Prayers out to the families and friends of these two men. Especially the babies who will never know their father.

Re:Rebecca I does matter a lot. If he was on cell he’s 100% at fault

so sad for both families and the whole community, and “john” cell phone records don’t matter at this point, it won’t bring anyone back and both parties are TRAGICALLY gone.

What a tragedy for both families. ..Had the opportunity of coaching Clayton as a kid and also had the opportunity of talking to him as a young man going through some tough times…He assured me that his kids was his number one priority that is so great coming from a young man of this caliber. .WI’ll keep both families in prayer. ..
