Northview Goes Out On A Win For The Senior Chiefs (With Gallery)

November 4, 2017

The Northview Chiefs ended their season with a 53-38 win over Snook Christian of Foley Friday on Senior Night in Bratt.

“It was a great feeling to finally win,” Northview coach Dereck Marshman said of his Chiefs as they ended an eight-game losing streak. “It was great for these seniors. Wonderful for these seniors to go out like this. It was sloppy at some times, but you know a win is a win right now, so we will take it and run with it.”

“This was a long year but these seniors kept fighting and fighting, they kept leading us. I told them before the game, what’s that final feeling gonna be for you seniors when you look at that score board? I think they are going to feel pretty good about it. And I told the underclassmen, hey let’s use this as a spring board into the off season and the motivation for this off season. So I think we accomplished both of those. Like I said there were some sloppy things at times, but hey we will take it how we can take it right now.”

Northview freshman Jayden Jackson returned the opening kickoff 78 yards for a 6-0 lead to get the momentum rolling for the Chiefs.  The Chiefs scored on their next possession on a short up the middle push from senior Tim Bush. With a good two point conversion, the home field Chiefs were up 14-0.

After Daniel Merit recovered the ensuing onside kick for Northview, the Chiefs advanced their lead to 21-0 on a 4-yard TD dash from Jackson.

Snook scored with 3:55 to go in the half, 21-8. The Chiefs were almost stopped just shy of the goal line in a big standing pileup, but suddenly the arm of Justin Helton and the ball reached out across the line for another Chiefs touchdown, 28-8 with 51.3 seconds. Snook would strike again with 0.0 on the clock in the half to make it 28-14 going into the lockers in Bratt.

The Northview Chiefs added a touchdown from Aunterio Minor in the third and Adam Aliff in the fourth before Bush scored again on a 53-yard run with 9:50 in the fourth, 47-22

Snook returned an interception 100 yards with 9:19 on the clock, 47-30. and scored again with 3:28 on the click, 47-38.

Bush added another touchdown run with 1:41 in the ballgame, 53-38.

The Chiefs are losing seven seniors, two of them that were first year players.

“We were just a young football team but we are going to miss them all. I mean especially the guys that have been with us. It was big night tonight for Justin Helton, Jason Fischer, those guys have been four-year guys. Tim Bush had a huge night tonight. He’s not a four-year guy but he’s been a four-year player, he just transferred to us. Hunter Spence had a big game. He ended up getting hurt and had to sit out the fourth quarter but he had a big game. Andrew Sharpless and Matthew Glover got their first starts of their career tonight so that was big for them.”

The Northview Chiefs finished the year at 2-8.
