Middle School Student Airlifted To Hospital Following Fight

November 17, 2017

A middle school student was airlifted to the hospital Thursday after being involved in a fight at a school.

The boy was involved in an altercation with another student before buses departed Ernest Ward Middle School, according to Escambia County School District Deputy Superintendent Norm Ross. He began to experience a medical condition while on the school bus on Highway 97 about four miles south of the school.

The student was transported by Escambia County EMS to the Molino Fire Station and then airlifted by LifeFlight helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

There were reports that the victim was struck using brass knuckles. Amber Southard, spokesperson for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, said authorities are still investigating that claim.

Further details on the student’s condition were not available. No charges have been filed in the incident.

I agree they should be bussed separately except that’s something our school system won’t do. The fact the bully left his bus to go attack someone else shows he is a violent person, charges should already be filed. This is exactly why these kids think they can get away with it because action isn’t taken right away. It’ll be interesting to see if we hear anything about charges being pressed.

2nd fight this week at a middle school. My son is in 6th grade at Ransom and apparently there was pretty bad fight between two older boys in PE Wednesday. The ambulance was called and one boy was pretty beat up. This bullying and fighting between our kids has got to stop. My son was so upset over this. Praying for these kids.

There was a report of brass knuckles. No charges has been filed? I hope if they find out there was brass knuckles involved there will be charges filed. I feel sorry for the young man and his family. I pray that he will be ok..

Praying for this boy. I hope the little thug who hit him with the brass knuckles is expelled from school and charged to the fullest extent of the law. Brass knuckles are considered a deadly weapon.

I know one of the students who rides this bus, and my understanding is that the victim was a 7th grade middle-school student, while the alleged assailant was a high-school student (from a different bus) who left his bus to attack the victim. Maybe we should consider bussing these age groups separately from here on out. I know in a rural area it is costly, but so are lawsuits. Putting safety first usually saves more in the long run.

Thankfully the school bus driver was alert and efficient enough to handle that emergency on her bus….hoping for his recovery.

This why you hate to send your kids to school because of bullies like this, maybe the school will take action against the one or ones that did this and sending prayers out for the young man and his family … kids need to be held liable for their actions now and maybe they will be better men and women when they get older ….JMO
