Company Says No Starbucks For Molino; Another Restaurant With New Gas Station

November 29, 2017

The company planning a new convenience store in Molino says it won’t actually include a Starbucks, but rather another fast food franchise.

NorthEscambia.com published a story Tuesday that stated “the new convenience store/gas station will be constructed ‘with a Starbucks attached to the side’,” as taken directly and accurately from documents submitted to Escambia County by Milam & Co. Construction on behalf of Diamond Oil in Atmore. [Click here to read the entire document, or see excerpt below.]

But Roy White, president of Diamond Oil in Atmore, said Tuesday night that the “Starbucks” reference was a typographical or clerical error in the document. Instead, White said the store will include a franchise food outlet, but he can not name the company until agreements are complete.

“That was an error in the letter,” White said. “We will have a restaurant, but I can tell you it definitely will not be a Starbucks.”

The new convenience store — and the yet to be named restaurant — will be located on 8.22 acres at the northwest corner of the intersection, across Highway 97 and north of the current Tom Thumb store. It is planned to have two fueling station canopies — one for regular gasoline and the second for diesel and commercial vehicle operations.

The Escambia County Development Review Committee will hold a pre-application meeeting on store plans this Thursday afternoon. Before construction could begin, the plans must go through several more steps in the county approval process. At the pre-application stage, there is no assurance that plans will ever reach the construction stage or that the facility will have the currently outlined layout.

I’ve never understood all the negativity toward Starbucks because they’re “corporate” yet those same haters eat at McDonald’s and shop at Walmart constantly.

always said another gas station across the street from Tom Thumb would make it. I was told at one time the Tom Thumb at 29 and 97 was the number 7 store in sales in the state of FL.

We don’t need any fast food restaurants. Starbucks or Panera Bread would be the best. Publix would be way better. Healthy food not greasy food.

There are no U turn issues – the no right on red would solve it all! And a nice grocery store would serve the community much more than another gas station – we need a decent store like Publix here to save us all the gas and time to go into Cantonment – help us grow.

We could use another grocery store, like Publix. And a fried chicken restrurant, like Popeyes or Churches, or even kfc altho wouldn’t like it as much. Publix! They are clean, friendliest, most variety, best produce, deli and bakery. AND, they have great fried chicken! They may be a little pricier, but for the service, freshnesh, and cleanliness, I would shop there.

Dairy Queen is closing locations, or cutting back service to strictly ice cream. Maybe not the best fit for the location.

  7. Vic on November 29th, 2017 5:36 pm

Are they EVER going to build anything in Molino?

Checkers or Chik fil a please!!!!

I certainly hope somebody is wise enough to anticipate the traffic problems this will create. I hope there will be intersection improvements before construction starts. It is bad enough with all the U turners, and other drivers trying to go and come from the store that is there already. Just the act of making both exits from the new one “Right turn only, and enforcing a no u-turn law on 29 would serve to make it safer for everybody

Probably end up being one of those Krispy Fried Chicken deals like what’s inside RaceTrac.

    I hope it’s a Taco Bell!

Dunkin Doughnuts,What-a-burger, quality gas @ good price…..everything kept clean.
Things have boomed around these parts in last 20 years……gonna keep booming .
Top rated Schools……30 miles from beach…..new roads in planning stage. Quiet
(Mostly). Helicopters & planes overhead ( like it ). Interstates not far away. If Sewers were extended (ECUA) on hwy 29 then new business’s could build.

Yes, because when I think of Mom and Pop, Wal Mart is the first thing that comes to mind.

All of the hate towards Star Bucks, so many narrow minds. Next, you’ll be protesting Star Bucks by saying your name is Merry Christmas. In all seriousness a star bucks wouldn’t be the best idea for the location until tourist season in my opinion. However a Publix on the other hand would at least create a few jobs hopefully bringing up the quality of life for the lucky few that land the job….. Well I guess you can work for the timber company? Eh

Perhaps, if everyone that agrees we need a grocer store here writes to one (hopefully Publix or Wal Mart), Maybe they would look into our situation and really put one here. They just opened one in Pace. Before a company builds, they look into the desire and needs of the the people in any given location and that takes money, hiring someone to do this. So, if they were to hear directly from the residents in our area, it may actually happen As for my earlier suggestion about Chic fil A, I do not think they would attach to a service station convenience store, as they have strict, but good polices that most do not posses. The Dairy Queen idea sounds good. A Burger King or Captain D’s might be a good choice, or a Waffle House, as someone else suggested. Am hoping that some entrepreneurs read the comments here. I plan to write some emails.

Whew! I am so relieved. Do not want a Starbucks anywhere. The best fast food restaurant for this area (in my opinion) is CHICK FIL A. And, for more than one reason. Three of which are the highest quality employees, the highest quality service, and the highest quality food.

A subway attached to the side would be nice.

Wouldn’t spend a penny at starbucks.

  18. missingthefeedandseed on November 29th, 2017 9:56 am

I wouldn’t shop at S’bux anyway, because of their politics and overpricing. Not to mention their burnt coffee. Anyway, I certainly miss the Feed and Seed in Cantonment. It’s so sad that they’ve closed. William, can you give us some insight on what happened? Is there any more to the story or was it just slow business? They were open for decades. Maybe it was the expansion that was more than they could handle?

  19. Alabamian on November 29th, 2017 9:51 am

Did someone on here really just say they want a Walmart and that they miss the old mom and pop stores in the same sentence??

  20. lmn on November 29th, 2017 9:40 am

Yes, please send us a grocery store. Publix are you listening but would be happy with a Walmart Market place.

  21. Football Mom on November 29th, 2017 8:21 am

If you are sad about Starbucks and want that yummy fru fru coffee, stop by the Lava Java coffee trailer just north of Hwy 29 and Muscogee, next to the feed store. Support our local hometown businesses.

  22. Sarah on November 29th, 2017 8:17 am

Right about the EMS standing by. The surveyor and project engineer couldn’t visualize the people crossing a double yellow line to turn in Tom Thumb from 29 to 97…. I agree we need a grocery store….and the Dollar General was great at first but now so nasty inside and out…. prices more Tha 22 mile away Walmart.

  23. Bob on November 29th, 2017 8:04 am

Starbucks… wouldn’t spend a penny there… We do need a grocery store instead of a convenient of more high price quick fixes. If anything would go in that area try Waffle House.

  24. local on November 29th, 2017 7:58 am

Looks like Bubba will have to drive into town for his Double Ristretto Venti Half-Soy Nonfat Decaf Organic Chocolate Brownie Iced Vanilla Double-Shot Gingerbread Frappuccino.

  25. ps on November 29th, 2017 7:53 am

if someone really had business sense they would realize that a grocery store is not in this town and is badly needed and would make them way more money then another gas station- we need a grocery store

  26. Joyce on November 29th, 2017 7:10 am

Who wants a Starbucks anyway. Our people wouldn’t spend that kind of money for a cup of coffee. Hopefully it will be a nice clean affordable place. We need a Walmart neighborhood market…miss the old mom and pop grocery store.

  27. Brian on November 29th, 2017 6:40 am

Good place for a EMS hang out with all the automobile wrecks. That the Red Light was going to keep from happening.

  28. Molino on November 29th, 2017 6:12 am

They just built a new Dairy Queen. It will probably be a Subway or McDonald’s unfortunately. Not many good restaurants usually attached to gas stations. But at least maybe Tom Thumb won’t be so crazy anymore, and they’ll add in the correct turn lanes so you don’t get stuck in the highway because someone ahead of you is trying to turn left.

  29. CW on November 29th, 2017 5:27 am

It sure would be nice to see a Dairy Queen. Seems there’s not many of those around anymore.

  30. Well on November 29th, 2017 5:06 am

    Better without the starBUCKS.
