Gambling Ballot Initiative Tops 300,000 Signatures

October 23, 2017

Trying to get on the November 2018 ballot, backers of a proposed constitutional amendment that could make it harder to expand gambling in Florida have topped 300,000 petition signatures, according to the state Division of Elections website.

The political committee Voters In Charge had submitted 301,370 valid signatures to the state as of Friday afternoon.

It needs to submit 766,200 signatures to get the measure on the 2018 ballot.

The initiative would change the state Constitution and give voters the “exclusive right to decide whether to authorize casino gambling” in the state. It would require voter approval of casino-style games in the future.

Really??? Why even ask whether casino should be allowed. Florida lottery is the same as gambling in a casino. Even people that invest in the stock market are gambling. At least a casino would bring many jobs to florida.

Politicians should not decide where gambling is allowed.

If the majority of voters in a county want gambling then they should be allowed to have it.

Or if the majority don’t want it then it should not be allowed.

We are supposed to be a democratic country!

Well you know the old guard won’t ever let that happen….those evil games…..i bet if Studer wanted to build a casino, then suddenly all that would change…..im sure we won’t see that until someone has a big enough political debt to pay.

A Casino in the Panhandle would certainly grab some of the tourist money which takes the day to drive over to Biloxi and spend money. We heard about how horrible it would be if they allowed poker at the greyhound track, and after years of no problems and job creation, we now have to listen to folks who think adult entertainment is bad for the state of Florida. If you followed the money which is supporting these groups, you can bet out of state gambling interests are probably the biggest contributor to banning casino gambling in Florida. Somebody should follow the money as to who is really supporting this ballot initiative.
