FDOT Orders Emergency Closure Of Arthur Brown Road Bridge

September 21, 2017

The Florida Department of Transportation as ordered the emergency closure of a Walnut Hill bridge after it failed a state inspection.

The Arthur Brown Road bridge over Boggy Creek, near the Walnut Hill Baptist Church, was  closed and barricaded Wednesday night by the Escambia County Road Department.

In July, work began at the location to construct a temporary road and bridge in order to construct a new permanent bridge. That temporary bridge is not yet completed, meaning residents that use the bridge will face at least a seven mile detour.

It is expected that the temporary bridge will be completed before the roadway is reopened. Then a new bridge over Boggy Creek will then be constructed, with 11-foot travel lanes, six-foot shoulders and a solid concrete barrier railing.  The bridge replacement project was  estimated to take eight months from its July start date, weather permitting.

Its amazing that it requires 1.75 Million dollars to build a bridge across a 3ft wide stream of water! It does get alot more water in heavy rain tho.. Hopefully they will get the temp bridge going asap!

Yet another bridge closed in Northern Escambia county. Why doesn’t FLDOT want to work on them. I talked with Comm. Steven Berry’s secretary and see just says they are working with FLDOT to get these issues resolved. I don’t see any progress. The Molino Rd bridge has been closed since January and still it isn’t open. I talk to a contractor working for FLDOT and they said it’s because it takes time for the concrete to cure. I did some reading up on that..It takes exactly 1 month for concrete over water to cure. SO, when I go down and look at this 4-6′ span of a bridge and only see 2 people working on it, if anyone at all; you got to ask WHY ISN’T FLDOT WORKING HARDER TO GET THESE BRIDGES FIXED!!!!. It should have taken only 3-4 months at the max to fix this bridge. WHAT”S GOING ON COM. STEVEN BERRY????

    >>What is the alternate route?

The county says Arthur Brown to Pine Forest to 97.

    Kansas Rd is another choice.

What is the alternate route? There has to be a better way to do this…There are businesses & the church that people use…Coming from Author Brown & Pineville…

Seems like they should have just closed the bridge to start with instead of spending all that money building a temp bridge and tearing up people’s properties.. There are several other ways in and out of that area. Maybe then, the work would get completed faster.

No it’s been 3 weeks since they have worked. I mean seriously did they go on a long vacation. We let them use some of our land to stock pile some of their stuff. And it seems they have just abandoned the job

It doesn’t even look like they started anything except tearing up peoples yards. and now they decide to block it off.

    No doubt Big Daddy.
3 months into an eight-month project and the temporary bridge is not even ready yet.

Be nice if Anderson Columbia would work on the temporary bridge a little more. Been almost 2 weeks since anything has been done.
