A correctional officer was recently assaulted at Century Correctional Institution.

Inmate Andrew Williams assaulted the officer by striking him in the face with a closed fist. Staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

This man should be on death row.

The court should add 5 additional years for any assault while serving a sentence, obviously he has not learned any part of his lesson yet, if he would do this to an officer in house , imagine what he would still do to an average citizen!

Century Correctional is not the only correctional facility where this is happening. My son is a CO and has been assaulted 3 times already (two of these assaults happened when he was coming to the aid of either an inmate or another CO). These assaults have happened in the last two years and none in the previous years.
State of Florida is not taking care of it’s employees.

I think they should bring back the whipping post that will stop a lot of this stuff.

Where I work we would put an outside charge on him for Battery on an LEO. That would get him more time to serve. I have no clue why DOC uses the term Assault and not Battery. They are very different by Florida Law. One is verbal and the other is physical.

Obviously the punishment isn’t enough or this wouldn’t be happening repeatedly. What we need is the 20 lashes with a reed. This country is way too soft on its prisoners. This is a murderer, not a good human.

Hope the CO is OK! This inmate sounds like a real gem.

This is getting out of hand in Century more has to be done to these inmates who assault officers. They need to put them in solitary confinement with only meals served for the rest of their sentence. If they don’t get a handle on this an officer will be killed.

As long as they get a small spanking this will go on forever. Who would risk that job?

It’s easy for those on the outside of the gates to say such things as ” I’d handcuff him to his bunk & throw him bread & water forever.” There are policies and procedures in place that have to be followed. Just because a “disciplinary report” was reported in the above article, doesn’t mean that is the only discipline that he has/will receive. That DR carries a lot more weight that you don’t understand. I wish that people would think before they commented on articles like this. If they have never been behind those gates, there is a whole different world back there, one that not everyone is cut out to handle. Correctional officers are not bullies, (as Hollywood would lead you to believe), they are peace officers and they are keeping you, the general public, safe from those that have broken the law.

I thought Florida would have done something to stop the violence at Century. The violence there is every week. Someone needs to be held accountable and the problems fixed before there is a riot.

If The officers hit a inmate FDLE sets up camp until everyone is fired or in jail…

Write him up! That will teach him a lesson that he won’t forget anytime soon. Some people just have to learn the hard way.
