The cause of a commercial building fire in Century Monday night is under investigation.

Passersby reported smoke and flames to be coming from the roof and door of the former used car lot building at the corner of North Century Boulevard and East Cottage Street about 9:50 p.m. The fire was quickly brought under control with moderate damage to the 1,080 square foot building.

There were no injuries reported.

The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate the cause of the fire.

The building now houses a used merchandise business.

The Century and McDavid stations of Escambia Fire Rescue, the Jay Fire Department, Flomaton Fire Department, Atmore Fire Department, Escambia County (FL) EMS, Escambia County (FL) Sheriff’s Office and the Flomaton Police Department were among the agencies responding.

It’s no one’s business but the owner of this building and how it has affected her life since catching on fire. It’s no one’s business if any transactions took place in this building. It’s no one’s business how the building looks. If you don’t like it, don’t look at it. That square body truck is hers, and she can do with what she wants to with it, again it’s no one’s business. It sounds like the town of Century is a group of “mind everybody’s business” city. Sweep around your own doorstep and let others alone.

I doubt very much was ruined in the fire since it all looked like trash anyway. It’s sad but the place has really gone down hill and looking dumpy! I wish everyone would quit talking about a square body because it really isn’t much to look at. Disgusting!!

If it was your “shop” in that building then it did in fact concern you. Don’t talk in riddles, just state the facts. Unless of course something does not need to be made public information.

Sorry for your losses Ms. Ward. The man will be dealt with by law enforcement. Take care of that square body. A lot of people have their eye on it

Why the hostility Beth? Why respond so defensively to what seems to just be comments about a truck? Btw you say this “man” made you and your family take a “hit”. Didn’t you have insurance on the building? I had no idea this business was even open and I drive by it 4 days a week. Must not have been doing much in business in the last 2 yrs at least.

I’m the owner of the square body and I took it home not that its any one’s business.Rest assured myself and my square body will be there all day tomorrow if its such a concern. And also the fire was started by a man that was showing out behind my shop and my way of providing for my family took a hit for something that didn’t even concern me. But thanks for keeping up with my square body, it’s an eye catcher

The place has Turned in to an eye sore in century right on the main road. With that much garbage laying around it was a fire hazard anyway. I’m surprised the city doesn’t do something about it looking like a dump.
