Atmore Police are investigating an armed robbery at Walgreens on South Main Street.

About 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, the Atmore Police Department was contacted by Walgreens corporate security about a robbery in progress at the store.

Atmore Police arrived and made contact with two employees who stated several armed subjects entered the store shortly before closing and forced them into an office. The suspects were wearing all dark clothes and masks. The suspects took money and prescription pills and then fled the store.

The employees were not injured but were visibly shaken and upset, according to police in a statement released Thursday morning.

Now that wasn’t called for Chris – :(
I can only imagine how fearful the employees were – I’m so thankful they are alright physically.
Atmore has had a lot of violence lately

Just one more violent crime fed by misguided prohibitions which have never worked. We thought we could prohibit alcohol, and the violence and criminal elements expanded as gang turf wars became the norm. Alcohol is still plaguing our lives with personal tragedies and loss of life, but the violence and criminal enterprises are gone as bootleggers have been replaced by a bud light commercial at half time of a football game. We need to decriminalize illicit personal use of alcohol, and drugs. We need to regulate it, but the war on drugs has created the violence where folks are robbing drug stores to get opiates, and where we had the common sense to stop the alcohol prohibition, we have lost our way as rampant drug abuse and violence has gripped this nation in our new prohibitions. People will find a way to get high and hurt themselves, but when a society compounds the original problems, the resulting societal decay is not unexpected. People are being killed in their homes, murdered on the streets, and we think the war on drugs and prohibition works…..it does not. Taxation and regulation will declaw the criminal enterprises and gangs.

So they came in on them right at closing time and only two employees in a drug store at closing time. Ridiculous

I am glad the employees were not harmed but I consider them lucky.
