Tate Grad Garrett Announces Bid For State House Seat

August 30, 2017

Democrat Vikki Garrett has announced her bid for the Florida House of Representatives District 1 open seat.

“I am working hard to earn the trust, support, and votes of the community,” Garrett, a Pensacola native, said.

The graduate of Tate High School earned a softball scholarship to Pensacola Junior College (now Pensacola State College) where she received an Associate of Arts degree. She continued her education at the University of West Florida where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Management and a Master of Public Administration degree.

Garrett brings over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors. Public agencies she has worked for include the Florida Department of Transportation, Escambia County Engineering Department, and the West Florida Regional Planning Council.

She states, “I have a proven track record of bringing resources back to the community.”

One of the many projects Garrett is currently working on is the restoration of passenger rail service to Pensacola. She was appointed by the Federal Railroad Administration to serve on the Gulf Coast Rail Service Working Group. She hopes to continue those efforts as a State Representative in Tallahassee.

Garrett said in a press release Tuesday that her priority is “Putting People First”.

Let’s NOT bring up the passenger TRAIN idea
AGAIN. Whatever the reason for the past failures,
    LET IT GO!!
IT WASNT SUPPORTED (RIDERSHIP) IN THE PAST,
WHAT’S CHANGED?? And, we don’t need to be
    SUBSIDIZING IT—TO PROVE A POINT.
    THANKS!!

Otherwise, work SMART for us! Good Luck!!

    A Cantonment Resident & Family!!

    And, GO ARGOS!

Wow. You people up there are bat-crap crazy. Do you really think that government is no good for anyone? Do you think you are totally self sufficient? Did you pave the road in front of your house? Have you bought a fire fighter just for you? How about your own police officer? Do you have a tutor for your child? I could go on and on, but I am sure you have quit reading long ago. The price of citizenship is taxes. Suck it up, Buttercup.

Well i know Adam’s house cat and i would not trust this womans ideas as far as i could throw a 2 ton pick-up truck. I am very enlightened and a staunch conserative american that believes that we are all egual and no one needs special programs. There are exceptions to everything. Nothing is always.

The vitriol aimed at someone who I’d venture to say none of the posters have ever met is astounding. I don’t know Vikki Garrett from Adam’s housecat but I’d be willing to listen to her and hear her ideas for making people’s lives better. After all, if you aren’t happy with the way things are going in Florida then you can’t shove that blame on Democrats. The Republicans have completely controlled Escambia County since 1994 and the entire state since Jeb Bush was elected governor in 1998. It’s difficult to understand the finger pointing at Democrats as big government money wasters when they haven’t had a voice in what happens in Florida for a very long time.

Since when is having an education a bad thing? Are you implying that no small business owners are educated? Like it or not, our economy has changed permanently. A high school diploma is not enough to earn you a comfortable future unless you are fortunate enough to live in one of the few places with robust manufacturing bases. Northwest Florida is not one of those places. It really hurts to see so much insularity and ignorance on display in the place where I was born and raised. I recall when I was coming along that parents encouraged their children to pursue higher education because they knew it was the only way for their kids to get ahead. I guess that has changed now and we want our kids to grow up uninformed, unaware, and blissfully ignorant to the world around them.

Vikki, I’m glad you’re in this race, I hope you come in 3rd or 4th place.. We need more big government democrats seeking new ways to waste money like a fish needs a bicycle. We know you’d work hard for the Railroads… and empty our pockets subsidizing it when if fails. We already have a boondoggle of a Transportation System in NWFL called ECAT. The windows of the buses are tinted so dark, so you can’t see how few people are onboard.

That dead horse, the money-pit passenger rail service, is a deal breaker among all the rest of the unaccsptable stances.

Back round-Government, government, government. Notice the degrees. How about a small business owner that is fed up with over regulation and high taxes for a candidate?

Some people never learn. The passenger rail service has been tried before, and failed from non-interest. Coupled with a tendency to de-rail resulting in carnage and death, public interest quickly evaporated. A dead horse here. Move on.
