FDOC: Inmate That Murdered His Mother Assaults Century Correctional Officer

August 31, 2017

An inmate that murdered his mother assaulted a correctional officer at Century Correctional Institution, according to information released Wednesday by the Florida Department of Corrections.

Inmate David Hankins assaulted the officer at approximately 10:15 a.m. on August 25.  Hankins became combative and head-butted the officer in the face., according to FDOC. Staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued.

Medical staff examined the officer and noted injuries. Inmate Hankins will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.

According to FDOC records, Hankins is serving a 25 year sentence out of Lee County for second degree murder murder. When Hankins was 15-year old, he stabbed his own 40-year old mother, stuffed her in a closet when she began grunting and left her there to die, according to 2009 media reports.

To the “mr. Nobody” who said “I have nothing nice to say so I won’t say nothing at all”
Clearly was saying something, so how about not commenting at all.

The US has 1% percent of the population and 25% of the incarcerated. Think about that.

Everyone is punitive. I get it. But no one is asking why. Yes, it does matter. I am not talking about the sentence. I am asking why he committed the offense. We don’t know the circumstances. He could have been emotionally and physically abused at home. It is wrong to assume he was taking drugs. He has already been before the judge. It is not up to us to judge him. It is up to us to help him.

I understand your anger. We must also have compassion. By the way, most prisons are for-profit meaning shareholders get a piece of our tax dollars. Why not spend that money on rehabilitation?

It’s clear most of you have an opinion on the prison system with no real knowledge on how it runs lol. Do some research dummy’s. Just saying

25 years for such a cold and callous act? This is ridiculous. What kind of a judge would hand down such a lenient sentence. I don’t care how young he was this was not an act of an immature brain. This was psychopathic act that he willing committed, and because of that he needs to be removed from society before some unsuspecting innocent individual becomes another victim.

Jen is right. The disciplinary report is only the beginning. Those reports are also used to update management variables, custody levels and other things. No report, no incident. They do serve a purpose in the overall discipline of the inmate.

This guy sounds like a psychopath. Sociopath at best.

Jen it sounds so wrong when you say he may possibly face charges for assaulting in the officer.
Should have been dismissed a long time ago and nothing has changed.

He probably thinks it’s everybody else’s fault.

Getting a disciplinary report in prison is not like getting put on yellow or red in Kindergarten, the disciplinary report will go in front of a panel and they will deem punishment which will probably be confinement for a long period of time, loss of gain time, and possible additional charges for assault to be brought against him.

Where is Sheriff Joe. What about 30 days in the sweat box on bread and water. Just saying.

Put him ln a closet and leave him there with a mean pitbull.
On another note I wonder what horrible thing his mother did to cause all this.

May I ask what drug this prisoner is taking? I’m not familiar with the system so what is this disciplinary report? Does it mean he gets a paddling which is what it meant 50 yrs ago when I was in school. I’d make him put on his pillow helmet before he were moved so his main weapon would bounce off of me.

Put him in a cell by himself with nothing but a bed and blanket and keep him there for the rest of his life. He has nothing to lose. He is a total loser!!!! Sentence for attacking officer should be automatic life or death!!!!!

What a piece of trash this guy is. Hopefully they will add some time for this assault.

All these silly categories for murder. He should have been executed once convicted. There is no point in going more than a day after conviction.

When he gets released he will still be young enough, and strong enough to kill again.

  19. Milly from Milton on August 31st, 2017 5:40 am

Boy, that disciplinary report should be enough punishment to keep him from assaulting any other prison officials.
