Deadly Home Invasion In Atmore; Couple Shot In Bed

August 7, 2017

Atmore Police are investigating a deadly home invasion early Monday morning.

About 3:15 a.m. the Atmore Police Department responded to a shooting call at 170 Broad Street where they found damage to the front door and two people lying in bed with gunshot wounds.  The homeowner, 56-year old Robert Kennedy was airlifted to the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile where he later died from his injuries. The female victim, 45-year old Joi McClammy of Flomaton, was transported to Atmore Community Hospital. Her condition was not released.

Investigators were told that a single gunmen entered the home and demanded money from the victims, according to Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Atmore Police Department at (251) 368-9141.

This was the second murder recorded in Atmore in the past week.  On August 3, 31-year old Shawn O’Neil Quarles of Camden, AL, was found lying on Ann Street suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He passed away a short time later. Atmore Police investigators were told by witnesses that Quarles was riding a bicycle to a store to purchase cigarettes when the offense occurred.

We need to use the death penalty more. It may not stop murder but they will never do it again and we will not have to feed them or put up with their guff.

This is a tragic situation it hasg taken 3 murders to happen for them to get the news there it took the loss of loved ones to get a town together.police activities have got to be patrolled better.it’s got to be it’s not working the way they are doing now.there needs to be an example made out of this situation.I new robert Kennedy 10 + years he probably would have given them what they wanted if it was in reason.it’s bad when you have to worry about someone robbing you. Your worse enemy doesn’t deserve that.It takes a sick and twisted person to break in somewhere and kill someone. If he would have shot the intruder he’d be in handcuffs for sure.society is back wards this day in time.I really hope to see some justice in not one murder 3 of them. My condolences go out to all the familys. R.I.P. Robert Kennedy. Fly ho
High in snowman jamming to your music. Love ya to the moon and back.

It is heartbreaking to realize what has happened to our small town. Make no mistake it HAS happened. Drugs, violence, lack of respect for human life, big city violence, small town target.
We were was raised to respect guns, used to hunt food, but also for protection. With that being said our home is armed.

Tragic news. Doesn’t sound like the old Atmore I use to visit as a child to see my relatives . Keep your doors locked and your guns loaded. RIP Atmore. You’ve become the Big City.

Home invasions perpetrators should get really really harsh sentences BC of the nature of a home invasion. Spooky! Sick people in the word! Lock up tight and keep that self defense firearm with one already in the chamber waiting for something to go bump in the night

What is going on in Atmore? I have been visiting relatives in Atmore all my life and it has been a quiet town until now. I want the quaint little town I’ve always loved back.
