Wife Of Pensacola Police Chief Arrested For Keying Vehicle

July 15, 2017

The wife of Pensacola Police Chief Tommi Lyter has been charged with “keying” a vehicle at a popular downtown restaurant.

Brenda Lyter, 47, was charged with one felony count of criminal mischief. She was released on bond from the Escambia County Jail.

Investigators say Brenda Lyter intentionally damaged the paint on a vehicle which was parked at  the Fish House on Barracks St. last Thursday.

The victim told police that “Brenda Lyter has a history of animosity towards her and she believes that Brenda Lyter had ‘keyed’ her vehicle,” an arrest report states.

A witness told police that he saw Lyter drive into the restaurant parking lot in a golf cart, walk past several vehicles before scratching one of them with a key before she walked inside the restaurant. A witness provided photographs of the golf cart’s tags, and the witness identified Lyter from a photo lineup. Video surveillance from the Fish House does not show the incident, but does show Lyter entering the restaurant’s reception area.

Damage was estimated at over $2,000.

Editor’s note: Brenda Lyter’s musghot is unavailable and not public record under Florida law because she is the spouse of a LEO.

As humans we are very abrupt to stab another’s character based on an associated circumstance. So what if her husband is a “police chief”. What does he have to do with it? She made the choice to be a juvenile. He should not be brought in the equation.
It’s obvious she lacks self contol but that is not our business! She needs an intervention with herself! We all need to look closely at our own lives. I have never seen a glass house in this town. Nor have I seen any bubbles floating around. If we stepped out a little more we would be more peaceful humans!

  2. went to school with her on July 17th, 2017 10:00 am

The Brenda Lyter you are pulling up on FB is not her.
I went to school with her. She was a few years younger, but she graduated in the 80’s from EWHS—Brenda D’Andrea. She is not a school teacher or a counselor—I think she owns a boutique downtown. Regardless, unless you have been cheated on—you can’t belittle her actions. Thank God that none of us live in glasshouses. Sure, she made a poor decision that was emotional based—who hasn’t?!

@ Grand locust…she made no mistake…she intentionally hid as cowards do and the laws as written us a felony…can’t put a blanket over sickness. And cry foul because she h it caught…”she made a mistaje my butt”

  4. Traci on July 17th, 2017 1:17 am

    Lock her up….

  5. Grand Locust on July 16th, 2017 2:46 pm

It was a stupid emotional mistake. Yet, once again we are talking about charging her with a felony, and bringing the entire criminal justice system down on another non violent offender…..keying a car is something which is immature and stupid, but a felony. Pay restitution and we need to stop the lynch mob mentality of thinking the criminal justice system is always the answer. Once again she made a mistake. I do not know the lady, and her husband’s status should not even have been in the headline……enough. No wonder taxpayers are going bankrupt when common sense has left the barn.

What could drive a “Police Chief’s” “Wife”, to key the other woman’s vehicle?

  7. chris on July 15th, 2017 9:18 pm

@ david: thanks so much for telling me all about myself. What a revelation it was!

They may have issues . She has made a bad option to get even. May have placed her husband in a hard position. He has worked hard for his position, guess she is tired being in the back. Bad move Brenda

Patty, the Brenda Lyter you found on Facebook is from Pennsylvania. Not Pensacola. And if she started teaching high school in 1976, how is she 6? Or was that a typo?

  11. William on July 15th, 2017 12:22 pm

    >>>>Just read this article. There is a typo in her age. She is not 47. Her Facebook bio states she began teaching High School in 1976.

Pensacola Police Dept says she is 47 years old. There is no typo.

  12. Patty on July 15th, 2017 12:12 pm

Just read this article. There is a typo in her age. She is not 47. Her Facebook bio states she began teaching High School in 1976. That would put her at 6 years old. T

1.chris, article said nothing about job, but her employer probably does not want her aroud anymore due to this incident. If she hs a job.

    2.ah, read the whole article.

    3. Stephen, of course joe blow would not be in the news for keying a car, If you met and colluded with a russian who would care.

,3. Sherri, please don’t make fun of someones looks because of age. That is not nice.

4.gary, maybe you know something we don’t.

5.billy’, personal life is a reflection of your professional life.

Leave these people alone. It’s amazing how the vultures come out to feed on the carcass of human tragedy. Do yourselves a favor and find something meaningful to do today rather than speculate about the marital and mental status of someone you read about in a new story. I don’t know either of these individuals and I’m guessing none of those who passed judgement or posted “conclusions” do either. Get a life…

What this article is leaving out that has everyone up in arms about “she believed she keyed her car” is that there was a witness who saw Brenda do it the man took a picture of the golf cart she was on and left a note on the victims windshield. The man then went on to positively id Brenda Lyter as the culprit. @Dan She turned herself in she was not arrested on the spot so no officer made the arrest.

What if there are more men of position, with wivied like this? If they do this kind of thing, their faces should be shown,as any Jane Doe would.

  17. Billy Howard on July 15th, 2017 10:25 am

@ Gary….REALLY? HE HAS A PROBLEM AND SHOULD RESIGN??! How shallow are you to see the can’t control this woman. HIS personal life is no reflection upon his ability to direct the fine officers of PPD…Can’t believe you even said that foolishness unless you have issues with him…did you drive the “get away golf cart”???

  18. delane garrett on July 15th, 2017 9:56 am

Imagine we can’t see her mug shot….?

  19. David on July 15th, 2017 8:52 am

@Chris…I know the professional she works for…he is a well know professional with a practice that dont need the stigma of an employee with that type of person attending his client . That leaves a job open for you Chris being it appears you have something missing in your good life. You of all people should get that point. Really.

Well. she got both of them and embarrassed herself too by making the front page. She will get off on this one but not on the divorce that will follow. Why would the Chief want that for a wife?

  21. Sherri on July 15th, 2017 8:26 am

According to Facebook, she is a “former counselor”. Wow! Sounds like she has some major issues herself!
She looks way older than 47 in her pictures. What the heck was she doing on a golf cart? Sounds strange.

  22. Stephen on July 15th, 2017 8:11 am

I do not condone damaging someone’s property, but let’s be real. The only reason this is news this because of who she was married to. Had this been Billy Bob from Brett, it wouldn’t have been reported on and no one would care.

  23. Curly07 on July 15th, 2017 8:05 am

    Traci,
The victim believes based on past issues with the woman, that she could’ve done it. A male witness SAW the police chiefs wife do the damage. Hence the separate paragraph talking about the witness testimony providing details to police that matched the police chief’s wife (golf cart, tags, personal description, seeing her key the car). As for your comment on her mugshot not being provided, this is common practice for immediate relatives/spouses of an officer. Being the status that the Chief holds, it could be very dangerous to post her mugshot.

I personally agree with David. It doesn’t matter what she looks like on the outside, it won’t cover the ugly on the inside.

There is no reason for any woman to act this way, regardless if the man is having an affair or not. Women should not lose their class and harm another woman or that woman’s property because of something the husband is doing wrong. Either take his butt to court and clean him out for his wrong doings, or walk away with your head up because you don’t have to live with that kinda man anymore, or both! Women, stop acting like teenagers with no reasoning or mature thought process! And if the man isn’t having an affair and she’s doing all this mess to that woman for no reason, she needs a mental evaluation.

  24. Chris on July 15th, 2017 8:03 am

    Ego plus alcohol equals mugshot.
Oh how the mighty have fallen

  25. I smell a rat on July 15th, 2017 7:38 am

I can only think of a couple reasons a 47 yr old woman would key another woman’s car. Doesn’t make it right, but I think the chief imight be doing his fair share of embarrassing his spouse. Time to grow up!!

  26. Ah on July 15th, 2017 7:28 am

This does not even sound like a solid case. There is no proof that this was done by the woman. The cameras don’t shoe her even doing this crime. Sounds a little fishy to me.

  27. Willis on July 15th, 2017 7:23 am

Not hard to find a picture. Linkedin
But her husband will have more trouble job wise than her.

  28. Gary on July 15th, 2017 7:06 am

I think the Chief of Police has a problem. He should resign!!!

  29. chris on July 15th, 2017 6:39 am

@david: what part of the article mentioned her job?

  30. David on July 15th, 2017 6:03 am

It’s not important what a person looks like. Her picture will not show the uglyness…inside. my personal opinion is she should write a apology letter to the citizens and it be posted. Don’t need a picture of the ugly inside of a person. The act shows that . And btw..she needs to find her another job. Her employer will not want this over his practice.

  31. Dan on July 15th, 2017 4:52 am

I would have hated to be the officer that arrested the chiefs wife even though he or she didn’t have a choice the chief probably don’t see it that way and we know the chiefs wife don’t see it that way and it’s obvious she wears the pants in that family

  32. Howie on July 15th, 2017 1:23 am

At the age of 47, grow up. A person this old should have better sense to leave people alone instead of stalking them. Glad you got caught. Hope you learned a lesson from this. The worse part is – you have embarrassed your husband. Shame on You !

  33. Traci on July 15th, 2017 12:34 am

So let me get this straight she says she believes she keyed her car she don’t know for sure?? Then the woman mugshot can’t be provided because she married to a cop SMH
