Roger Howard Lindsay, 70 of Atmore, Alabama, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017, at his residence. He was a tool polisher. He was born on May 8, 1947, to the late Thomas Henry and Emma Dean Holden Lindsay.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Raliegh Lindsay.

Survivors include two sons, Scott (Liz) Leatherwood of Mobile, AL and Robert Leatherwood of Atmore, AL; four grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Robert and Tanner; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sunday, June 25, 2017, from the Lindsey Cemetery in Booneville, AL.

Brenda Mary Maddox Baccus

Brenda Mary Maddox Baccus, 68, of Atmore, AL, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017, in Monroeville, AL. She was a homemaker. She was born in Atmore, AL on January 26, 1949, to the late Alto and Dummer Foster Maddox.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a grandmother to many.

She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Delores Findley, Betty Slaughier, Jerry Maddox and Bennie Ray Maddox.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Baccus; two sons, Todd (Alicia) Smith of Mobile, AL, Scottie Smith of Atmore, AL; three daughters, April Caraway of Atmore, AL, Angel (Paul) Caraway of Huxford, AL and Genise Coleman of Frisco City, AL; two brothers, Gene (Carolyn) Maddox of Dempolis, AL and Allen Maddox; one sister, Marie Odom and special friends, Bill Plowmen and best friend, Peggy Gentry; 14 grandchildren, Erin, Brad, Parker, Trenton, Joey, Kandace, Cody, Dakota, Dylan, Holly, Brittany, Brandy, Destiny and Savana; six great-grandchildren, Emmett, Korie, Jamie, Jade, Taylin and Vera; and a host of nieces and nephews; neighborhood kids, family and friends.

Services will be held Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 10 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joey Smith officiating.

Interment will follow in Enon Baptist Cemetery in Enon, AL.

Active pallbearers will be Tony Wilson, Dakota Caraway, Cody Caraway, Dylan Caraway, Kenny English and Brad Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Boutwell and Gregg Johnson.

Rupard Muldre Murray

June 28, 2017

Mr. Rupard Muldre Murray, 97, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017, in Century, Florida.

Mr. Murray was a native of Moyeville, AL and had been a resident of Bluff Springs, FL since 1965. He was retired from NAS with 31 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Odom Murray; parents, George and Annie Murray; and two sisters, Willie Mae Childress-Burkett and Mildred Mooney.

He is survived by a special cousin, Helen Nemunis and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Willis officiating.

Burial was at the Little Escambia Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ark Penton, Michael Childress, Jerry Fisher, Robert Burkett, Arthur Burkett and Bill Smith.

Earline D. Coleman

June 28, 2017

Earline D. Coleman, 82, of Atmore, Alabama, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, at her residence. She was retired from NAS Pensacola. She was born in Poarch, Alabama, on June 20, 1935, to the late Homer Jack and Nora McGhee Daughtry. She was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, and a member of the Friendly Holiness Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Coleman, Sr.; brother, W.C. Daughtry; and brother-in-law, Curtis McGhee.

Survivors include her sons, Ralph (Ann) Coleman, Jr. of Fairview, VA, Homer (Brenda) Coleman of Huxford, AL, Kenneth Coleman of Atmore, AL and Doyle Wayne Coleman of Poarch, AL; one daughter: Cathy (Kenneth) Langley of Atmore, AL; two sisters, Pearline McGhee of Poarch, AL and Betty (Leonard) Garlitz of Birmingham, MI; lifelong friend, Peggy Norton of Atmore, AL; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and a host of family and friends.

Services were held Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Friendly Holiness Church with Bro. Ralph Coleman and Bro. Ray Ward officiating.

Interment was in New Home Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers were Steven Carpenter, Justin Coleman, Kenny Coleman, Jr., Clayton Coon, Curtis Hayes and Kaweta Coon.

Honorary pallbearers were Terry Ardis, Randall Ward, Toby Pierce and Joel White.

Marion Lorraine Galloway Harrison

Marion Lorraine Galloway Harrison was born February 12, 1931, in Gasque, Alabama to William Galloway and Linnie Nelson Galloway. She passed away June 22, 2017, at the Century Care Center in Century, Florida.

She was born and raised in Baldwin County on the beautiful Bon Secour Bay. Mrs. Harrison graduated from Foley High School. She later married Leonard Harrison and moved to Atmore, Alabama where they raised three sons. She was a faithful partner to her husband in their trucking and farming businesses. Mrs. Harrison is known for her deep love for her husband and sons and her green thumb. She grew beautiful ferns and plants, and owned and operated Country Plants for several years at her home. There was no flower or plant that she could not grow, and constantly had beautiful blooms in her yard.

She was a long time member of the Canoe Baptist Church.

Mrs. Harrison is preceded in death by her parents, William and Linnie Galloway; sister, Wilhemina Galloway Ryan; her beloved husband, James Leonard Harrison I; and son, James Leonard Harrison, Jr. (Jimmy).

She is survived by her sons, Wayne L (Barbara) Harrison and Dale Harrison; eight grandchildren, Jim (Amanda) Harrison, Glendon (Amber) Harrison, Dustin (Emily) Harrison, Lynn (Cooper) Thurber, Chris (Courtney) Harrison, Travis (Stacey) Harrison, Michael Harrison and Lesley Harrison; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Johnson Quimby Funeral Home on Saturday, June 24, 2017, with Rev. Waylon Stuckey, pastor of Canoe Baptist Church, officiating.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Jim Harrison, Glendon Harrison, Dustin Harrison, Chris Harrison, Travis Harrison and Michael Harrison.

Burial will be held at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Michael Earl Grindle

Michael Earl Grindle, long time resident and minister to the Atmore Community left his earthly home on Saturday, June 24, 2017. He was the current minister at Presley Street Baptist Church, on staff with Johnson Quimby Funeral Home and ministered to many community organizations and people.

Those who proceed him in death are his parents, Earl and Rosemary Grindle; sister, Denise Grindle and father and mother-in-law, Doyal and Maud Phillips.

Mike leaves his wife of 47 years, Barbara P. Grindle; two brothers, John Grindle (Patricia), Tommy Grindle (Audrey), sister-in-law, Linda P. Godwin, brother-in-law, Larry Phillips (Judy) and many loving nieces and nephews.

Many honors and awards were earned and cherished by Mike. Some of those include Eagle Scout with Palms, member of the Board for Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation by Homestead Hospice for Veterans to the U.S. Air Force. Mike served his country in the U.S. Air Force and then continued his education by finishing his undergraduate studies with Mobile College. He then answered the call of God by finishing his studies in theology with the New Orleans Baptist Theology Seminary.

Mrs. Gayle Alston Hanks, 92, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017, in Atmore, Alabama.

Mrs. Hanks was a native and former resident of Mt. Vernon, AL and had resided in Atmore, AL for the past 85 years. She was a member of the Healing Waters Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Daisye Alston; husband, Edward Hanks, Jr. and brother, Ted Alston, Jr.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Loretta Hanks of Ellijay, GA; one daughter and son-in-law, Eugenia and Stan Pope of Atmore, AL; five grandchildren, Stephanie Herndon Still, Matthew Dodge, Karen Worden, Keith Maddox and Keith Pope; eight great-grandchildren, Luke Edward Still, Olivia Hope Dodge, Shyla Pope, Aliah Pope, Samantha Pope, Jake Worden, Jayme Worden and Areia Worden.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Daniels officiating.

Burial was at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mark McLain, Joe Key, Jimmy Key, Jimmy Cowart, Eric Kimbro and John Johnson.

Sallie Marie Dunsford

Sallie Marie Dunsford, 71 of Century, Florida, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, at her residence. She was a homemaker born in Pensacola, FL on September 15, 1945, to the late Homer and Lorraine Chavers Lawson.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew T. (A.T.) Dunsford; daughter, Susan Angela Nall; and sister, Glenda Faye Byrd.

Survivors include three sons, Butch (Karen) Nall, Buster (Melinda) Nall and Steven Nall, all of Century, FL; one daughter, Sheryl (Ken) White of Jay, FL; two brothers, Gene (Patricia) Lawson of Gulf Port, MS and Ray (Gloria Jean) Lawson of Century, FL; one sister, Patsy (Joe) Cobb of Tuscaloosa, AL; and four grandchildren, Jacob Lowery, Cody Lowery, Shea Nall, and Lea Nall.

Graveside Services were held Wednesday, June 28, 2017, in Serenity Gardens with Bro. Mitch Herring and Bro. Chris Hawkins officiating.

Ex-Employee Sentenced For Stealing From Cantonment Business

The former employee of a Cantonment business has been sentenced for stealing equipment and then pawning it.

Michael Anthony Patterson, 44, was sentenced to 48 months probation for  felony providing false owner information on pawned items, and grand theft. He was also ordered to pay court costs and restitution to the victim.

Patterson was arrested for stealing two Honda generators valued at $2,000 from that garage of  A-1 Small Engines on Highway 29 while he was employed at the business. He then pawned both generators for $310 total at a Pensacola pawn shop, according to an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office report. The business owner was able to pay the $310 and recover the generators after they were identified by serial numbers and unique markings.

He is also charged with stealing and pawning additional items, including plasma cutters and welding equipment. A-1 was able to buy back most of the items at pawn, except for one plasma cutter.
