Vandals Strike Cantonment Sportsplex Again

May 31, 2017

More vandalism has been reported at the Cantonment Sportsplex. This time, park officials said  lights were damaged or destroyed and the vandals once again attacked bathroom fixtures.

Ab Escambia County Sheriff’s Office crime scene unit responded to the park Tuesday night to collect evidence from the scene.

Just over a week ago, we told you the vandalism of bathrooms at the facility. Bathrooms were vandalized  –fixtures were broken and paper towels were used to cause overflows.

Anyone with information on either incident is asked to call the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP.

The cantonment & molino has no deputies around here after dark anymore. Although we were promised more 4 years ago. I do not like liars. Politics at it’s best….

@ Susie B… you are right. It IS sad that this would/does deter people from using a public place. If we let that happen, the vandals win. Remember fear is a liar and the second amendment doesn’t discriminate. who did they catch?

    I will.

I think maybe there should be some exploding dye packs installed in the paper towel holders so only the people who service them know about them. Anyone who opens the holders with no key or knowledge of the dye packs would go home painted a different color. I bet it’d be easy to find who did it then.

Sheesh people, I didn’t say put the cameras in the stalls, or IN the bathrooms :-\ Seems like if everyone put their minds together another spot could be thought of to catch a face. Goodness! And… with all the vandalism, shootings and various crimes reported out of Molino and Cantonment Area may I suggest upping the patrols of Law Enforcement. Women cant even walk down the road. HELLO?! ANYBODY?

I’m a disabled vet with (among other things) PTSD. This is right up my experience alley. I don’t sleep at night so I would be more than glad to lend a hand (or foot) for a very, very reasonable fee. That would be amnesty. Lone Chief for the return of the “woodshed education”!!!

  7. Vickie Nelson on May 31st, 2017 10:53 pm

You can put camera’s in the bathrooms. Just don’t point them at the urinal. Cameras come in all sizes today, you can hide them everywhere. They wouldn’t even know where to find them. If there is a will to find these vandals, there is a way. Think like they di.

Wow, as many small battery operated night vision cameras are out there and they are still asking the public for any information… This is being done under the dark of night by the very same people during the work week! Get smart and catch these criminals already!!

  9. deBugger on May 31st, 2017 4:09 pm

    “cameras on every corner”
    NSA under your bed
    FBI on the phone
    CIA all over the place…

    “Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

Looks like some us need to be doing some patrolling at night…I’m an insomniac I’ll be riding through often from now on…this is ridiculous

  11. Taxpayer1 on May 31st, 2017 2:17 pm

What’s going on these days? Between drugs, car theft, Rooster fighting and Vandalizing their own park is crazy! Better get a grip on things. Just sad and all of the stuff you read about most often daily in and around the Cantonment Area!!!

  12. Suzie B on May 31st, 2017 1:29 pm

I agree with the trail cams with motion sensors. That’s what helped catch and identify the killer that was on the loose. I hope something can be done. So sad that parks can’t even be enjoyed anymore due to ignorance and irresponsibility

  13. Chris in Molino on May 31st, 2017 1:02 pm

Hell, let em do it some more. Makes as much sense as sending me to jail when I introduce em to the “strap” and whip em till they can’t sit down. Oops, sorry I even said that, may have offended or scared someone with my “threat of violence”. Sad world indeed.

I am not sure what the answer is but we have got to find a way to stop it. I am NOT for putting locks on doors or park gates. It makes me angry that a facility is built for us to use then the county puts a lock on it so that it can only be used between ??am-??pm. Most people work during the day so the only time we can use facilities is evenings. Why am I paying for this if I can’t use it? Surely we are smarter than the vandals and can figure out how to stop this.

  18. anne 1of2 on May 31st, 2017 10:06 am

I just want all of their community service applied to cleaning those bathrooms for 5 years with a toothbrush!

  19. Football Mom on May 31st, 2017 9:51 am

Why aren’t the bathrooms locked? If a team is out there playing or practicing, make them responsible for “locking up” when they leave.

  20. Howie on May 31st, 2017 9:33 am

Install burglar bars over every door with padlocks when not in use. Also, when the Deputies need a place to do paperwork, do it at the park. Be seen and hopefully some of this mischief and destruction will stop. Young punks up to no good.

  21. Pops on May 31st, 2017 9:20 am

“you can’t put cameras in a bathroom!!”
No, but you can put them outside to monitor who goes in and out.
If it happens again, it would then be fairly quick to weed it out to the likely culprits.

  22. nod on May 31st, 2017 9:19 am

When they are caught will anything happen to them other than the parents being punished?

  23. K in Cantonment on May 31st, 2017 8:39 am

you can’t put camera’s inside the restroom but can’t they mount them outside the door? I think some parents out there need to be checking on their kids at night, because if they are under 18 guess who gets to pay for the damage THEY DO, and the way the damage looks it going to be expensive. Maybe it’s time to start a NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH.

  24. paul on May 31st, 2017 8:39 am

A camera doesn’t need to be inside. One outside will narrow down the suspects. I doubt there’s a long line after hours.

  25. K in Cantonment on May 31st, 2017 8:31 am

You can’t put camera’s in the restroom, so can they be mounted outside the doors?
These people are SCUM (that word is too good for them). Sounds to me some parents need to be checking to see what their kids are doing at night,
    JUST SAYING.

  26. 2 cents on May 31st, 2017 8:27 am

To “D”………no, not IN the bathroom, but definitely somewhere where you can see who goes in and out.

  27. fisherman on May 31st, 2017 8:07 am

Just shut it down don’t fix it. It will happen again.

  28. Bubba on May 31st, 2017 8:01 am

This is really sad !!! The whole neiborhood around the park is bad !! There is more drugs on that 1 mile stretch of welline everyday than crosses the border to Mexico!! Maybe the Sheriff dept. Will crack down on it !! Ps don’t tell them BEFORE they do it !!

  29. D on May 31st, 2017 7:51 am

Simplefix you can’t put cameras in a bathroom!!

  30. April Fairchild on May 31st, 2017 7:43 am

Looks like some of our local hunters need to set up some trail cams around the park and ID some of these vandals.

  31. Tim on May 31st, 2017 7:05 am

Sad to see this happen again. What the song SCHOOL OUT FOR SUMMER! I hope it is not adults doing this and some kids up to no good. I seen the hard work that has been put into this park since it open back up and this just make me mad! I seen on the park face book that they are having a park clean up day would be nice to see our community come out and help them clean the park up. I know fall ball and football coming so lets help them out!

  32. Wolf on May 31st, 2017 5:43 am

Well I use to walk my dog there every evening. Now we have three and we been talking about doing it again. Maybe we will. Might help deter some of this.

  33. mike on May 31st, 2017 4:41 am

so, what do you vandals call your little gang? I have some suggestions:

    The Super Jerks
    The Toliet Bowl Boys
    The Bathroom Gang
    The TP Mafia

Anyway, we have a group of little you know whats living in Cantonment, no doubt. It’s gonna be sweet when they catch these kids I can see crime when they think they are getting something out of it, but just senseless destruction, that is lame, & weak. Low wattage ain’t the word for these guys, their bulbs are burnt.

  34. simplefix on May 31st, 2017 1:55 am

Seems like a small hidden trail camera might come in handy. HIDDEN being the key word!!! I bet somebody on the force even has one lying around this time of year. just saying.
