Deputies: Man Douses Girlfriend With Gas, Threatens To Set Her On Fire

May 25, 2017

A Walnut Hill man has been charged with attacking his live-in girlfriend, dousing her with gasoline and threatening to set her on fire.

Dustin Lamar Hastings, 29, was charged with kidnapping/false imprisonment and battery after the incident on Pineville Road.

The victim told deputies that Hastings became enraged, throwing a coffee table across the couple’s living room and throwing a lamp through a window.

The victim exited the home, she told deputies, with Hastings following. She said he poured gasoline on her and her vehicle, telling her that if she tried to leave he would set her on fire. He then grabbed her by her hair, pushed her down and dragged her up a driveway and forced her back inside.  She attempted to leave, with Hastings pushing her against a wall, according to an arrest report.

The victim was eventually able to escape and called law enforcement from a relative’s home. Atmore Ambulance also responded, but the victim refused medical treatment.

Hastings was later released from the Escambia County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

Why would they release him?? Are they kidding me?? Sure, that’s really going to encourage women to get help from the police like everyone else..

My sister’s ex did the same when she was 8 months pregnant. Thanks to God I was able to get her & her 2 children away from him when he busted her incision from c-section the day she went home from the hospital a couple months later. Unfortunately she never told of the gasoline until a year or so later. He is now serving 10 years in prison for making meth in Cantonment. Thank be to our Lord & Saviour, she will never have to be put through those things again. It’s tortuous & one never fully recovers such abuse. I pray this guy gets a big plate served!

    REGARDING:
“Yes David, and then you will spend the rest of your life on death row.”

Florida runs around a thousand murders per year.
There are usually fewer than 20 death sentences in Florida per year.
    https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/florida-1

Therefor, about 980 murders per year did not result in a death sentence (although the one convicted may not have been guilty but probably was — if it is often somebody else, your odds of not being sentenced for the murder you did are even better).

Odds of not going to death row are 50 to one in the killer’s favor.
The greater danger is a sentence of life in prison because nearly nobody even cares about those folks.

    David for avoiding prison

Providing a negative variation on the term “a hot date.”

A cousin was tricked into going to a former lover.
He tried to beat her to death.
She stopped him by shooting him.
Then she drove him to the hospital where they managed to save his life.

She made three errors of judgment but never repeated them.

David for lives of peace — by any means necessary — where possible

And there’s your sign sweetie…arm yourself if he even pulls back up in your drive kill him…you can not depend on any legal system to protect you..you have to do it yourself

  10. David on May 26th, 2017 7:02 am

If that was my kin he did that to…..he would never make it to trial.
This is what is wrong with our legal abuse system…..condoning this behavior with a romper room bond by a romper room judge.
Now…let it be a judges kin folk…and there would be no bond
The values of your safety is according to who you are in life…seriously

This is so sad!!! Cause this will be the next homicide/murder in the paper due to JUSTICE not being taken from the beginning. Why do they even give people like this a second chance. This is not a case where u are innocent until proven guilty cause the evidence had to be there or he wouldn’t have been arrested and charged with the crimes. I don’t care if he has no background of domestic violence this is how murders start off. Stop it before it happens!!! And if she goes back to him charge her for make false accusations against him and throw the book at her. Maybe we can cut down on some of this crap. Make her and him pay for all the time that our police dept, emt, and any other public services that had to be involved. It’s a place to start then maybe people will think twice about the cost of going back together

They probably have a drama scene every day. Both of them need some serious help. No one is worth losing your life. I agree the judge is nothing but an enabler. Go ahead judge, play golf!

  24. Charlotte on May 25th, 2017 8:53 am

I don’t get it. A bond??? How many people are going to suffer or die at the hands of their abuser because they had a bond, especially a low bond, get out to either finish the job, or continue to attack her or someone else. This makes me sick. When Boyett got out on bond, several times for abuse, he finally killed four women, then himself, which even though it was the coward’s way out, at least we the people didn’t have to shell out our tax dollars to keep his no good ass in jail for years before it went to court, then more then likely state prison on death row for twenty or so years. Put these abusers, men or women, in jail, if for nothing else, to protect someone else from being abused, possibly killed.

  25. Mic Hall on May 25th, 2017 8:40 am

What moron let this guy go? He was one flick of a lighter from killing this woman.

A threat of murder gets a small bond. Our judges are idiots and really don’t care about the rest of us.

Next week the story is going to be how the woman mysteriously died and later that this guy killed her. What will the judge do? Go have a long lunch. No consequences for releasing dangerous people to do harm.
