Thousands Attend Blue Jacket Jamboree, Livestock Show

April 2, 2017

Thousands of people attended the annual Northview High School FFA Blue Jacket Jamboree and the Gulf Coast Agriculture & Natural Resources Youth Organization Annual Spring Livestock Show Saturday in Molino.

The event included plenty of arts and crafts, a car show, a tractor show and more, including a special visit the Easter Bunny and an egg drop from a ladder fire truck.

The livestock show included over fifty 4-H and FFA youth exhibiting hogs, beef cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, and rabbits from Escambia and neighboring counties. The day ended with youth exhibitors auctioning off their market animals.

The Blue Jacket Jamboree was sponsored by NorthEscambia.com.

    @ EGG DROP MADNESS
    Dear Egg Drop Madness,
If you think it was ridiculous, please join the organization to make it better next year.

@EGG DROP MADNESS, thank you expressing your concern. I’m sure since this was their first time doing it, they would learn and know what to do better next year. Now I did see a few firemen with bags of eggs spreading eggs out behind the drop zone. And I think I remember clearly hearing them say to wait until they said go before running to the drop zone. Maybe they planned on once they were drop to take and spread the eggs out. I’m not trying to cause a fight, just expressing that this is a trial run for them. I know these FFA members will do better next year, they always make it better each year!

The festival was great but the EGG DROP was ridiculous! While I appreciate the effort, the pile of eggs caused a frenzy of madness. We were patiently waiting 30 minutes with a 3 year old and a 4 year old…The spokesman said wait until the Easter Bunny gives the signal and all the eggs are dropped, don’t worry there are plenty of eggs..3000! Well they didn’t wait, as you can see in the pictures, if you look, people began running stepping all over each other. Some ADULTS ran to the front and hit the ground hovering over the eggs and raking them in the buckets.. REALLY!!! All of us that were practically ran over and trying to save our kids from being stomped, we’re at the back thinking that our kids would get a few eggs when the people in the front would move on for all the other kids to get some. But no, that never happened, parents were telling their kids to scoop the eggs up by the bucket, which was pretty easy since they were in a big pile! There were so many kids standing there with empty buckets or half the egg which was all that was left. If some of these kids parents would have just stayed back and let the “CHILDREN” get the eggs and let them know there were other children wanting a few eggs too, maybe all the kids would have gotten at least a couple of eggs. I have lived here my entire life and been to my share of egg hunt/drops and never seen it this bad. I hardly ever comment on here, but this incident was too important to me. This was a bad example for kids. I hope next year they do this egg drop differently and spread it out some, so ALL the kids that come can have fun and go home with good memories of the egg drop!
