A year ago my life was permanently changed. This accident stole so much from me. I just want my life back. I want to be free of pain. I’m grateful to still be alive. I pray nobody else have to endure such a tragic event. Hopefully, the necessary changes were made to this intersection or in the process.

When the plans for this intersection were being made, I was in favor of a round-about. Everyone turns right, everyone looks left for oncoming traffic, no stop signs (only yield), traffic moves like a merry-go-round. Maybe next time.

..WILLIAM…THANKS FOR THE STATS..YOU ARE THE BEST..

I agree with CW…the green light still allows drivers to turn left….and sometimes they misjudge the speed of the oncoming vehicles….too risky for that much traffic

I wonder if they were to make it a NO TURN right on red and only turn on a green signal if that would help. I know there are less wrecks but I have had people still pull right on out in front of me and I had the green. It’s still very dangerous. Prayers for all involved.

Hello Casey Godwin, we are happy to hear you’re doing well. Things happen that we cannot control. It was an “accident” we want you to be in high spirits. Please don’t let this bring you down. We will keep you in our prayers too.

To the driver and passenger of the other car, I cannot express how relieved I am to hear that you are both doing well and recovering. I can’t apologize enough for what happened. My prayes are still with both of you, and I hope you have a swift recovery.

The turn signal (left onto 97) should be go on green arrow ONLY… the ‘yield on green’ is still a problem. There are times where it looks like you have enough time to make it across, but when southbound traffic is going 75-80mph they’re on you on no tIme.

That Tom Thumb store is also a huge problem. I’ve seen people shoot across 29 onto 97, and then immediately hit the brakes to turn into the store. I almost rear ended someone doing that once.

wow as I predicted the light is a waste of money I have seen so many run it ,, no full stop at it and even U turn to get to the store,, it’s 100% the hurry up and I can be there 20 seconds earlier syndrome

Thank you God my boyfriend and I survived this car accident. I pray for the other driver who was involved. Our deepest condolences goes out to you. We aren’t mad, but happy you are okay. We all are recovering. I’m learning to walk again. My neck is cut up badly. Other injuries will recover hopefully over the next few weeks. Thank you to the fire department, EMS, Sheriff, nurses and bystanders. I could of been dead if it wasn’t for the quick thinking and rescuing. God bless you all.

Outside of this site being the only source of news in north Escambia FL and south AL it covers our news well.
It would be informative to know what the final reports on these accidents contain.
To be specific, what was the cause.
Was a cell phone in use at the time of the accident? Easy to find out.

Like others have posted, excessive speed and passing in no passing zones is what I see every time I drive on Hwy 97 which is nessarly If I go anywhere.

I understand the lack of funds to patrol in the north end of the county and the more serious crimes in the south end, but we have virtually no coverage up here and drivers seem to have no fear of being caught for speeding and dangerous passing.

Maybe it is time to consider an extremely harsh penality for causing an accident while using a cell phone.

@William & EMD—-Charlotte made my point exactly. There’s no need for a light. There’s a need for folks to get off their phones, gadgets, and pay attention. Slow down. Grumpy people in line at all these stores get so ill like they wanna rush to their death and drive the same way. Stop being so impatient, smile and say hello to someone. Who knows, maybe someone is having a hard time in life ready to end it and your nice smile and hello is enough to make them consider things. That’s what I mean. It’s not about a light, it’s people.

  13. Charlotte on April 3rd, 2017 7:53 pm

There are plenty of traffic lights in the area. Everyone one of them, I would dare to say, has had an accident at one time or another. You can’t blame the traffic light. You can, however, blame a driver that is not paying attention.

  14. EMD on April 3rd, 2017 7:38 pm

Fewer wrecks and safer crossing. Light there is a VERY good improvement. Starbucks would not be an improvement, Chris. I am all for the light and I am not a yuppie.

  15. MImi on April 3rd, 2017 7:18 pm

They need to completely redesign the 29 entrance to the Thom Thumb. People are doing u-turns into oncoming traffic to turn into the store. Can’t get into the store from 97 because people always block the road. The whole intersection needs a redo.

  16. William on April 3rd, 2017 5:06 pm

The traffic light was activated in June 2015. This was the third injury crash at the intersection since then. The first was May 2016, followed by one in June 2016 and this one in April 2017.

That’s far fewer than the three or more per week we have covered there before the light.

There have been no life-threatening or fatal crashes since the light was activated.

We have no information on no or minor injury fender-bender wrecks.

  17. Brian on April 3rd, 2017 4:53 pm

Glade that red light is saving wrecks. All it does is cause traffic back ups.

  18. Chris in Molino on April 3rd, 2017 4:43 pm

Glad everyone is relatively okay. I thought the light that the yuppies and newcomers to Molino wanted was supposed to stop these wrecks. Oh well. I guess it has slowed them down while causing congestion at the same time. Progress. Hey yuppie folk, when are we getting a Starbuck’s ?

  19. Molino Resident on April 3rd, 2017 2:45 pm

All the redlights in the world can’t fix carelessness. People turning onto 97 cut southbound traffic off all the time.

I would like to see the stats.on accidents before all the stop lights..and accidents now …Seems to me , there are more now than before..drivers can see opposing traffic for a great distance before entering the intersection…is everybody distracted these days…
