Century Council To Consider Garbage Rate Increase Tonight

April 3, 2017

The Century Town Council is set to approve a garbage fee increase when they meet tonight.

Century’s 545 garbage customers currently pay $16.98 to per month. In order to stop financial losses in the garbage department, Hawkins is proposing a 36 percent increase of $6.21 per month, for a total bill of $23.19. The increase will allow the town to continue to collect bulk items such as furniture and appliances and vegetative waste.

The Century Town Council meets at 7 p.m. at the Century Town Hall. All meetings are open to the public.

No government should be in the utilities business to begin with. Just turn everything over and wash your hands of it. Then perhaps the Mayor and Town Council can focus their energy on improving the town. How about some nice iron lamp post lining highway 29 along with some landscaping so the town doesn’t look so depressed. Some incentives to get businesses to fill all of those vacant delapitaed old buildings? Businesses in Century close to never reopen. Why is that?

Everyone is already struggling in century, now since the town owes such much money for those meter reader computers, and they are giving raises to employee’s I am for the raises but don’t charge the customers.
