Cantonment Man Charged With Stealing Mowers Worth $30K

April 7, 2017

A Cantonment man has been charged with stealing over $30,000 worth of mowers and other items from a Highway 29 dealer.

Christopher Shane Milstead, 38, was charged with grand theft, burglary of a structure, dealing in stolen property and felony criminal mischief. He was released from the Escambia County Jail on a $22,500 bond.

On March 13, Kingline Equipment on Highway 29 reported that someone cut their fence and drove away with two mowers while leaving third one outside the fence. The total value of the mowers was $26,197. The mower last seen by the business on March 10.

Kingline later reported that the business had discovered and additional mower valued at $3,999 and a set of ramps value at $125 missing…for a total of $30,321 in stolen merchandise.

About a week later, a Pensacola Police Department detective had contact with a man who attempted to sell him a high-end mower for what a very low price. A check of the serial number revealed it was one of the mowers stolen from Kingline.  The individual told investigators that he had paid $2,800 for the mower, and it was surrendered to police.  The individual identified Milstead as the person that sold him the mower, according to an arrest report.

Deputies reported finding the second missing mower at Milstead’s residence. and it was returned to Kingline Equipment.

I like how several people say to get more details before judging… as if thousands of dollars worth of stolen merchandise in the possession of someone trying to sell the merchandise “well below” market value, isn’t enough to get the ball rolling. Lol. What a joke!!!

No record before, well he has one now. Be careful what you buy cheap from someone else if this is the case. We don’t really know, it’s just another person’s word. Can’t believe everything you hear. Let the Judge and Jury decide.

“Get all the details before you judge,” here’s a possible scenario. He was shopping after hours and found these mowers he just had to have right then. He cut the fence, loaded the mowers up and drove away with every intention of returning during business hours to make payment, but something came up and he forgot. He got short of cash, so he sold one mower well below market value, intending to then use that money to make a down payment and finance the remaining debt. Instead, those pesky cops showed up and falsely accused him of theft. Or, the other more likely scenario is he’s a thief and got caught.

The cops don’t accuse someone of theft for no reason! Hope he gets the help he needs so he can get his life straightened out.

Just sayin, by all means, please share the details that we are missing. There are lots of details included in this report. You have more?

“get the details before you judge”…….here we go with another California-based attitude towards thieves and the like. He took the goods from someone else and tried to sell them………or maybe he bought the goods cheap from the thief and……tried to sell them. Either way he’s guilty of taking property and selling it, or receiving stolen property and trying to sell it. Those are all the details I need to see. Go to the west coast and defend him out there. It might work there, but not in the rest of the REAL world!

Wonder if he used the money from the additional mower and ramps to pay for his bail? Plus evidently the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence you’ve cut through!
