Vandals Strike Century’s Anthony Pleasant Park

March 26, 2017

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a case of vandalism at Century’s Anthony Pleasant Park.

Someone spray painted references to “Weed” along with vulgarities and obscene images around the football field, including on the press box, press box window and a light pole. They also destroyed a custom made “Century, Home of the Blackcats” sign that was painted and donated by a local resident last September.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP or the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620. Callers to Crime Stoppers do not have to provide their name and may be eligible for a cash reward.

Anthony Pleasant Park is named after Century native Anthony Pleasant, two-time Super Bowl champion. The park was dedicated in his honor in July 2011.

Who ever did this, I myself have decided, I would have forgiveness if you came forth privately to the Mayor or our new Councilman Gomez and apologized. I believe there is still hope and that you can help clean it up and be a part of making the town better. We do not all even have to know about it. You will feel better about yourself and there is redemption. May you live to be a great leader in the community and have this story to tell.

Usually, I feel much more adamant about being tough but I think we may actually have something valuable here, having a mayor who is a reverend and a very popular councilman. I think Gomez will be able to organize some very specific projects and make it fun, especially for the youth.

I don’t know why I feel this is a better way, perhaps I remember that I also wrote something on a desk at school, and something on a bathroom wall about “sitting there brokenhearted.”

    There is Hope.

Ok these must be some poor misguided misunderstood young people that are crying out for help. Please do not judge them.

@Citizen. Anthony is aware of the vandalism. I sent him a text message and explained some of the graffiti. He was disappointed that somebody would do this. I’ll keep him posted about any details that arise.

Why are people in this world so full of evil, always trying to hurt the other fellow. Lets spread love, not hate. We all need each other. Whoever did this, stop it. How would you like someone to spray paint something that is very dear to you?

If only they would realize that they are destroying. There own community with the vandalism. If they could do something constructive instead of destructive with their time it would make a better place to live teach them at home and they will take it to the streets and any where else that they go

Can someone contact Anthony Pleasant? Perhaps he will come speak again and be a positive role model, I support the town officials and churches to use taxpayer donation to crimestoppers to find these individuals and they be given many many manyhour of community service and turn their lives around. Century needs to organize an official community service program not just dependant on volunteers.

I know this act of disrespect goes deep into the community, especially after the programs starting to clean thing up.
Do not lose hope. Put it back together with more resolve than before. Ask for donations, even if some are unable to donate labor. I will buy a can of paint.
    Black Cat Pride! Century!
Perhaps more good than harm can come from this.
This may be far fetched but perhaps we can designate a graffiti wall for budding artists to express themselves or give them paint to paint something useful, like the asphalt on the tennis court.
Down in District three, they talk of park ambassadors to call in anything to the LEO if they see any activities in a public place that makes it seem unsafe or unpleasant so young folks, take back your parks and playing fields, playgrounds, splash pad, they belong to you and to us!
    Keep the Faith, We Win!

Acts of vandalism reflect the poor mindset and mentality of the ones who are supposed to be the owners of these very assets.

Vandalism portrays an insolent and disrespectful attitude of the people and their lack of ownership of public places to be responsible enough to care for these assets.
We will stop vandalism and show respect and take ownership of them to protect them from damage and defacing.

As people of Century we must take responsibility in guarding and protecting against vandalism.

The new beatification projects must not be spoiled and everyone must put hands together to care for our town.

We will paint a good image on how we really care and respect our town.

The activities of littering is similar to acts of vandalism because it helps to damage and destroy the beautiful environment we have.

Despite this negative attitude, not everyone has this vicious mentality and habit of tarnishing what they have around them because there still are many people who are respectful, caring and loving towards their beautiful environment and town.

Sad, that they don’t have this thing called a job, to make money, to enable them to have nice things and do nice things.I hope they enjoy knowing that they are nothing but scum.

Wonder if its the same person(s) that spray painted the big F… You on the tennis court at Showalter Park. :( Hate the kids seeing it everytime we play there. I just dont understand peoples need to defile things.

this kind of juvenile crime has been going on forever. it’s usually a sign of things to come from these individuals. it can be traced back to parenting , or lack there of.

  13. Next door neighbor on March 26th, 2017 9:21 am

Pretty sure they did that Thursday but when is irrelevant. Whoever did it needs to have something more productive to do with their hands & minds than this & what they painted. Sad really.

  14. Old Coach on March 26th, 2017 9:04 am

This is really an act of stupidity and idiocy. Vandalism by one or more persons should be the maximum allowable penalty when they are caught.

  15. bewildered on March 26th, 2017 8:50 am

Why investigate? Nothing will come of it. Even if they find out who is responsible they will not have the financial means to make restitution. Our laws in the juvenile justice system do not require juveniles to “WORK OF” the cost of the damages in such deliberate instances. A lot of projects could use a new coat of paint but . with our liberal approval politicians labeled “WORK” as a dirty word that harms the fragile persona of today’s youth. So let the insurance company take care of the damages and get on with our lives. Nobody cares that in the long run we all pay for vandalism with higher premiums, etc.

  16. Leslie on March 26th, 2017 8:05 am

Punks with nothing better to do.
I hope they are caught. Then they should be given a bucket, sponge and paintbrush to clean up all the destruction.
Better yet, maybe they should have to clean up while everyone else gets to watch.

  17. Kim on March 26th, 2017 6:16 am

This is ridiculous and sickening. I hope they catch them and make them pay dearly for this. Hmmmm wonder if they could track all the black spray paint that was more than likely purchased locally by my guess teenagers…..

They seem to be really intelligent young people with a lot going for them……(sarcasm)
