Sign Guy Had Just One Job: But This Molino Detour Goes In Circles
January 18, 2017
The sign pictured above on Chestnut at Crabtree Church Road incorrectly advises drivers to take a right hand turn to detour around a closed bridge on Molino Road. The “sign guy”, as one NorthEscambia.com reader observed, even had written instructions marked on the pavement with a left hand arrow. Drivers that follow the detour, as incorrectly marked, will circle back to their starting point.
The Florida Department of Transportation is replacing the Molino Road (CR 182) bridge over Penasula Creek at a cost of $1,128,303. The project is expected to be completed in the fall.

@FL Mom, In spite of my performance moniker, I agree 100% about the 45 MPH on these secondary roads; elderly, children. farm animals, deer and pets.
I never pay any attention to the direction signs, as I know where all the roads around here go.
I am enjoying the bridge being down. Far too many semi’s & other vehicle speeding up and down the road. * Speed limit should be 45; this road is NOT HWY29! *
To the crew.. take your time the safer road is much appreciated.
I live dead center between Hwy 182 & Crabtree Church Rd. On Sunshine Hill Rd. We have about 6 hidden driveways & kids & dogs Speed Limit is 35 Not 55…I beg you please slow down, (Young ladies & 18 wheel loggers) Could we have speed bumps just temp. during Bridge re-build..please ,before someone gets killed.Prayers to our Creator for all to be safe. Mvto—-Thank you……………
Sorry for all of you who wish theyd hurry with the bridge. I’m loving it and actually i consciously think about and appreciate it being down. It’s been so peaceful with 90% of the wannabe Nascar drivers not coming by the house. I feel for those of you on Sunshine Hill & Crabtree Church.
REGARDING:
“At least you won’t get lost…”
That was the best response and reminds me of:
“We’re lost! We’ve never been here before.”
“No, Son, I’ve been here before.”
“Good. Where are we, Daddy?”
“I dunno. I was lost then too.”
David for seeing the world
maybe he just had a great sense of humor and said to his buddies, “ya know, I always wanted to try this”………. and they got the giggle from it. I know I would have!
Several people have commented on the speeding from 97 onto 95A north at the “new” intersection. No stop/yield sign there to slow them down. Watched a big truck go into the north-bound lane because it was traveling too fast for the curve. Glad the oncoming car saw it in time to move onto the shoulder of the road and no one was hurt. Be careful and safe folks!
I am glad that myself and all of you have never made a missteak!
Poor Ole “Sign Guy”.
And Jane, concerning 95A & 97
What did you expect , considering their signs had been flashing for a week about the work and to expect delays and use Alt. Route
I just commented yesterday driving by that sign heading to the other side of 182 I bet many a car went right unfamiliar with the shortcut. Wish they were done with the bridge already.
Well if the “Sign Guy” goes back out to fix things, while they’re fixing those strategically placed signs… Please move the one on Crabtree that comes up to the stop sign at Sunshine Hill Road. It’s not like we don’t already have a stop sign ahead sign blocking the actual stop sign. Now we have a detour sign blocking the stop sign as well. Look at all the NEW skid marks there!!! Location, location, location!
Hire a realtor next time. They know every shortcut , don’t share them, and don’t have to put up with traffic, lol.
The guy putting out the signs used to work for the race track…..Right turn, Right Turn, Right Turn. LOL
On many FDOT jobs the signage and barricades are contracted out to a company called ACME.
Everyone is quick to blame the county, the contractor that has the bridge job is who installed the detour signs and other signage that has to do with that job on molino rd. Not the road or sign department.
At least you won’t get lost…
The sign guy had a 50-50 chance of getting it right… or wrong in this case.
This does not surprise me. Look at the mess they have made on 95AN/97! And the closed 95AN yesterday at 97 so everyone living on that end had to drive 4 miles out of their way to get home. Not impressed with the county road department pllanning……..
It’s typical Escambia County business, you’re just given the run-a-round.
They handed the guy three rights and one left. The left was on top so it went up at the first intersection. Simple mistake and neck-down sign post guy could make.
It is only off by 180 degrees, Hope they don’t allow the same margin of error on the bridge installation. Seriously..
Can’t wait for the jokes coming in though.
There’s your sign! Too funny!
