Convicted Rapist Escapee Recaptured

January 5, 2017

Alabama Department of Corrections officials report the recapture of state inmate Bobby Junior Campbell.   Campbell, 37, and a male suspect were taken into custody by ADOC agents around 2 p.m. today in Montgomery.

Campbell and Mitchell Shane Worthy, 24, were found at an area hotel near Interstate Park Drive where both surrendered to authorities without incident.   Worthy is suspected in aiding Campbell in his escape.

Campbell was transferred from the G.K. Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore to the Barbour County Sherriff’s Department on Nov. 17.  Campbell was later released from the Barbour County Jail the same day.

The Department of Corrections reported Campbell’s release as an escape on Wednesday after corrections officials discovered a fraudulent court document in his file ordering his transfer from the Fountain Correctional Facility to the Barbour County Jail and subsequent release.

Officials said the fraudulent order raised questions of its authenticity when a person’s name authorizing the inmate’s transfer and release could not be validated.

Campbell was serving a 20-year sentence on a 2004 second-degree rape conviction out of Houston County.  He faces charges for the escape.  Worthy will be charged with aiding an escaped inmate.

Worthy was sentenced to three years in prison in 2014 on a theft of property conviction in Elmore County.   He was released from prison in October 2015 and his connection with Campbell is not known at this time.

The ADOC is investigating Campbell’s escape and the circumstances leading to his release.

True that a rapist should be in jail , but has anyone thought of how much time is enough .
I agree the other person should be made accountable if he helped get false documents . Nobody here has thought, what corruption. Goes inside once a person is convicted
Some that have authority might just be a little shady but nobody ever says or thinks it. Really ,BDO you all think it’s always

    >>But is there a difference between escape and being released, which the story says he was ?

When someone fakes documents to have a prisoner released wrongly, it’s escape. That’s why he was charged with escape

Glad he’s back where he belongs.

But is there a difference between escape and being released, which the story says he was ?

Houston County AL is in the southeastern corner of Al. Dothan is the county seat. Most likely returning home. Hopefully will be caught soon.

@ Alabama Prison Facilities – close the open holes where the useless incarcerated residents are escaping.

I do not believe in vigilante justice. I am not god I do not serve justice onto others. I hope proper law enforcement apprehend him before he harms someone else or some else harms him!

Not so sure I would be publicly sharing the desired outcome to a chance encounter with this individual. Something about pre-meditation vs. self defense.

    @ Bill:
Just make sure he has a gun or knife in his hand when they find him (wink, wink)

And u know what’s even more messed up? The guy that escaped before him was on a 20 year for drugs but yet a rapest is only on a 30 out justice system iss really messed up. You really do get more time for drugs than rape or molesting a child.

Ladies, travel in pairs, stay in town, don’t help anyone on the road – he may dress as a woman, etc. Talk to your daughters too. Looks like the guys are planning to handle this but we have to be cautious. I’m sure the area is crawling with the Police.

Is it just me or are there quite a bit of escapes happening from Atmore lately? Did someone forget to shut the door or something?
