Century Man Steals Volunteer Firefighter’s Truck From Accident Scene

December 8, 2016

A Century man has been charged with stealing  a volunteer firefighter’s pickup truck from an accident scene that was surrounded by deputies.

Kilo Lowe, 19, was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, criminal mischief and driving without a valid license.

The incident happened shortly after a two vehicle accident at North Century Boulevard and West Highway 4 Tuesday night in Century.  The volunteer firefighter arrived at the crash scene in his personal pickup truck and went to work rendering aid to the injured. The crash scene was blocked from vehicular traffic by deputies to the north and south, additional deputies were on scene and a Florida Highway Patrol trooper was also present.

The volunteer firefighter noticed his pickup was missing from the crash scene and notified deputies. As the firefighter was providing his information, he spotted the truck just outside the accident scene, turning from East Pond Street to North Century Boulevard. Deputies conducted a felony traffic stop on the vehicle as it turned on to Hudson Hill Road. Lowe was ordered from the vehicle at gunpoint and taken into custody without incident.

Lowe told deputies that he is schizophrenic but was taking his prescribed medication. Lowe has never been issued a driver’s license, according to his arrest report.

The pickup truck sustained a 12-inch long scratch on the tailgate during the time it was missing.

Lowe remained in the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $10,500.

I know I am late, but this breaks my heart. Andreas and Kilo are both my brothers. Neither one of them are uneducated or stupid. Kilo was a straight A student in school and is very intelligent. He hooked up with the wrong crowd and somebody did him dirty. He had been dealing with his mental issue since he got a hold of the bad drugs. I tried to help him as much as I could, but it wasn’t much I could do with a husband and 3 kids to care for. He really has been out of his mind and haven’t been his self since. He is constantly thinking people are talking to him in his head. He no longer carries a cell phone because he thinks someone is listening in on his conversation. For you people to be so judgemental I’m sure your family has its problems as well. Sometimes we just need to pray and hope God heals his mind and heart. If it was your kin, I would do the same because nothing comes of talking badly about someone. I even pray God heal your hearts as well. The Bible says if you judge someone you become them so guess what? You are no better. I don’t know why my mom named him that but we joke about it all the time and I love his name. Kilo is really lost at this moment. Let’s pray instead of criticizing someone’s down fall. I miss my little brother, my life hasn’t been the same since either!!

@Robinhood You right he made that mistake in now he got to learn from that in do better

Being schizophrenic does no excuse him from committing a crime. He went there, stole a vehicle, his statement about never having a driver’s license, doesn’t come into play.

    Good job Deputies.

I am a product of the public school system in Escambia County. I consider myself intelligent and articulate. I can also say with the certainty of observation, in many cases the school system doesn’t fail the students. They simply do not want to put forth the effort to learn. They arrive in high school with expectations of being the next sports superstar or are too interested in “hanging with their homies”. What HAS failed them is a structured home life guiding them responsibly. The lure of drug money or other crime is overpowering when compared to the task of ongoing education. Don’t blame the system if children show up determined to attend just long enough to leave. To paraphrase – “you can’t make a silk purse from a sow’s ear.”

    @Robinhood,

Most likely, Andreas dropped out rather than taking advantage of the free public education to which we are all entitled. I am a product of the public school system, and I think that I have a good education in addition to being a teacher myself. It’s very possible that Andreas was passed along, but it’s much more likely that he was not passed along and quit school when he reached the end of the compulsory age where he was required to go to school. That being said, we are each responsible for what we chose to do with what we are given.

We don’t know do we? I think it’s a bit harsh to blame every bit of this on the educational system.

  6. Robinhood on December 9th, 2016 3:24 pm

Andreas is a real good example as to what our education system IS NOT doing.

They should have failed Andreas and all others just like him that I see on these sites. Most can’t even make a sentence let alone spell correctly. TERRIBLE !!!!

It reflects WHY our Country has fallen from the top where the US once was the leader back in the day. Just read some of the post people put on these North Escambia news article sites and you will see for yourself.

It is a two edge sword, It is funny to read BUT sad to know loads of stupid / ignorant people out there and it is the schools fault for not failing them and making them repeat the grade. Shame on the Schools for passing them along.

  12. Citizen on December 9th, 2016 1:06 am

    What is a BOTHER keeper?

  13. Road Scholar on December 8th, 2016 9:58 pm

When I first read “Andreas’” post , I thought it was a spoof. Then I realized this man is serious. He is his brother’s keeper. He is a Saint. So what ever happens, it can not be “Saint Andreas’ Fault.”

    REGARDING:
“Can you please stop talking about my bother like that yew act like yew haven’t done nothing wrong in never got caught doing it
Yew should know better but yew don’t”

Yew no oui half awl dun rong tings.

    Excuse me, it’s contagious.
You know we have all done wrong things.

Comments are based on the self-centered nature of stealing from someone in the middle of a selfless act of trying to help injured people as well as doing it in a particularly poor manner. The justification and peculiar nomenclature just spice it up.
(By the way, they are saying worse than they are posting. That’s why it’s better to avoid openly doing dumb, illegal things.)

    David for deserved good reputations

  15. Np630ss on December 8th, 2016 7:53 pm

Smh….you just can’t make this sort of stuff up.
    “Yew”…..really???

  17. jeeperman on December 8th, 2016 7:30 pm

I should read all of the articles before commenting.
But in general, car thieves seem to get stiffer penalties than other more heinous crimes and it is disgusting.

  18. Mike Honcho on December 8th, 2016 6:12 pm

Yea good guy steals your stuff while you try to help other people and it’s you not yew Andreas
At least try not to show ignorance

  19. DJ on December 8th, 2016 6:06 pm

That’s exactly what is wrong with people today. They try to justify why they did something wrong. Right is right and wrong is wrong. It’s that simple. I am sure he knew what he was doing.

  20. Andreas on December 8th, 2016 5:08 pm

Can you please stop talking about my bother like that yew act like yew haven’t done nothing wrong in never got caught doing it
Yew should know better but yew don’t
    My Bother keeper

  21. David Huie Green on December 8th, 2016 1:53 pm

    Kilo’s my buddy.

Don’t worry, buddy, you’ll learn better ways.
So the best way to avoid getting caught stealing is to NOT steal.
(This works with other crimes too, but one thing at a time.)

    David for better ways

  22. fred on December 8th, 2016 1:46 pm

    @Chris – touche’ :)

  23. chris on December 8th, 2016 1:14 pm

@fred: No, the OTHER person is at fault. Schizophrenia, remember?

  24. Retired on December 8th, 2016 12:55 pm

We came upon this scene from the South when the first responders were in the area and saw the helicopter circling in the sky. Prays for the people involved and special thoughts for all the first responders. For this man to do that and take advantage of such a heart wrenching chaotic time is terrible.

  25. fred on December 8th, 2016 12:16 pm

so, his defense is that Schizophrenia made him a thief? Not buying it, and I hope the judge doesn’t either.

  26. Nicole on December 8th, 2016 12:09 pm

It’s sad that when people are trying to help the community and volunteer others want to pull stupid stunts like this I hope he doesn’t get out he needs to learn a lesson instead of a slap on the wrist. Thank you to all the first responders to the accident for working so hard to help others (:

When you name your child “Kilo”, what do you expect he will accomplish in life? Why not just name him Dimebag or Halfagram?

  28. tg on December 8th, 2016 9:40 am

I wouldnt think Kilo is a good name to start life with.

  29. Alabamanon on December 8th, 2016 8:27 am

Glad this ‘kid’ is off the streets. I have reported him lurking around my home and vehicles previously, to no avail. Maybe he will get the help he needs now.

  30. willy on December 8th, 2016 7:48 am

mighty convenient time to claim a sickness causing you to take a first responder’s truck. Taking the meds or not he knew he was in the wrong. It’s okay though, he’ll get free meds in jail too. Happy the firefighter got his truck back, the tailgate getting scratched is a better outcome than it could have been.

  31. 429SCJ on December 8th, 2016 6:10 am

Sounds like Kilo is a few grams short.
