Atmore Paving Project Causing Delays At State Line

December 15, 2016

Drivers traveling into Alabama at Atmore can expect delays for a resurfacing project.  Highway 21 is being resurfaced from the Florida state line north to Magnolia Street in Atmore with ongoing lane closures. Work started Wednesday at the state line, with traffic backed up into Florida on Highway 97. The project is expected to last for several days; the Alabama Department of Transportation was unable to provide an estimated completion date. NorthEscambia.com photos, click to enlarge.

    Traffic delays…
Remembering back 60 years to times when my grandmother who lived in Pensacola would gather us kids and our moms all up and we’d get into the car to go up to somewhere around Bluff Springs and the old concrete (?) roadway that parts used to still parallel Hwy-29 was always, I mean ALWAYS being worked on.
We’d have packed food and tea and water in the car because it was near a full day’s drive up.
Of course we’d stay the night with grandmother’s sister and family because there was no way to make it back home before dark.
