Concerning , Eyes Open comment, this dog is defiantly a Pit or a Pit mix. American Bull Dogs will have a much shorter snout and always have wrinkles around the snout and head . This is a bred trait that is looked for among breeders where as the Pit, having Terrier blood, will have a more elongated snout and tight skin. Some have started calling the Pit a Staffordshire bull dog which they are the same breed just different names based on their Kennel Club association, ie. UKC vs AKC. But what ever you chose to call the dog it was bred for one purpose and that is evident in its name. They were bred to fight in dog PITS. They are fighting dogs and should be treated with extreme caution no matter how sweet they are. Once that switch has been flipped they become very aggressive killing machines.

10 days, Authorities have to keep the dog in quarantine for 10 days to see if it shows any signs of being rabid. Then the dog will be humanely euthanized. By law FL says your dog and cat have to be vaccinated for Rabies yearly, by a veterinarian. There is a 3 year vaccine as well. I hope the child recovers without having to have to series of Rabies vaccines.

In response to Cindy, I’ve never known a family dog to attach someone in their own family that was not a pit bull.

I’m surprised they give you ten days they killed my dog after only three and I claimed my dog the first day he was in there and had the money to get him out . And the lady was proud to tell me she put my dog down . And he wasn’t even in the pound for biting anyone . Whoever owns this dog needs jail time its obvious no one is taking care if it . Its probably scared to death .

Hope the child will be ok, some one should have been watching the child. This dog looks like an American bulldog not a pit. Any dog may bite when irritated like being tapped on, tail pulled.
Parents don’t take your eyes off your babies or small children. They move very quickly.

A dog bites a child and you blame the child? Time and time again these breeds bite children. Get rid of the dog.

I’m sorry for the baby who got biten, but where were the parents. When are we gonna quit blaming the breed and start holding owners responsible. That pup looks like he was thrown away after the owner was done with him. This is sad no matter how you look at it.

If a dog feels threatened it will bite. It doesn’t matter which breed it is. These are animals, not people. I feel bad for the baby but who let a 1 yr old go near the dog?
There has to be more to this story.

I know several families who have had severe tragities from their “nice”, “good dog”, that just happened to be a pit bull. It is so sad to jeopardize you child’s face, because you have ” a great dog that would never hurt the baby”. Which is exactly what happened. 1beautiful little girl was disfigured. Another has severe scars on her back and head and almost died. Another famil had a “good ” dog (pit bull) that was the family pet for 6 years, had never bitten a person. 1 night in the middle of a heated argument, their “good dog” tore into the boyfriend, the lady (pet’s owner) and the grandma tried to stop him. The dog tore up 3 people putting them in th hospital. 2 of the victims were the owners of their beloved dog for 6 years and had never seen him behave like this before.

You can see ribs, hips and shoulder blades showing. Looks like the dog has been neglected or on its own for a while. Can’t really blame an animal for being starved. It’s not the breed, it’s the way it’s treated. I’ve had plenty of bulldogs before and they acted the way they were treated. They were all big ol’ babys. Hope the baby is ok.

It seems to have a collar. So I don’t think it’s a stray. Praying that the child is fine.

I hope the youngster comes out okay. There’s many who would say blame the owner and Not the breed.. I say it sure seems like a lot of pit owners don’t deserve to have pets.

Even if it’s the owner or they know the owner…..Trish!!! Sad…

Of course no one is gonna claim ownership….they would be liable for this child being bitten….
