‘Miracle’ That Missing Grandmother Found Alive Near Century
October 31, 2016
Family members say it was a miracle that 83-year old Shirley Cooey was found near Century Saturday after being missing for a week.
Cooey was located off Highway 29 on North Canoe Road, a non-maintained dirt road. Her car was stuck deep in the sand of the roadway, where she had apparently spent most of the week. She was located by two Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies who responded to a report of a suspicious person.
Cooey had apparently been living out of her car, which had a dead battery. She had food…an uneaten loaf of cinnamon bread was on the passenger seat after her rescue. But her major problem was a lack of liquid. She was transported to an area hospital suffering from dehydration.
“Our family can’t even begin to thank every enough that looked for for a week,” Lindsay Cooey said. “I’m so thankful that that everyone came together to work for her safe return.”
Lindsay Cooey said there were times she doubled that the missing senior would be found alive, but her faith and love for God pulled her through.
“I prayed and prayed and prayed,” she said. “I was reminded by by faith what He is capable of.”

@ Eva Herring……God is indeed a God of second chances.
The first chances slipped by a big family who did not pick up on a problem.
Thank God she was found. I pray for a speedy recovery.
I have kept up with this story on the news and have said prayers for her and her family members. God is good. I’m glad she was found safe and hope her and her family are doing great. God bless y’all’s family.
God is indeed a God of second chances!!!!
Hopefully the family will take measures to track her car etc. This has happened to her before too…She was found in Georgia then. Thankfully she was found alive this time.
Bless her soul, she is one tough lad. Some people younger in age and perfect health would have had a hard time with that situation. May she have many more blessed years.
Bless her heart. So glad she was found. Must have frightened out of her mind.
This woman needs to be enrolled in Project Lifesaver.
..THIS IS A GOD THING…ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF”IF YOU SEE SOMETHING , SAY SOMETHING “..THANKS TO THE ECSD FOR THE QUICK FOLLOW UP…DEHYDRATION KILLS…THANK GOD OUR HEAVENLY FATHER WAS WITH HER..”HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW..
I am so happy to hear this..I prayed for her everytime I thought about it. I work in Beulah and would look for her car around the area. Thank God for looking out for her-I too was afraid something terrible had happened to her, now we know that God was taking care of her until we found her! Thank you Jesus!
