October 27, 2016

The Byrneville Elementary School Board of Directors named a new member and elected new officers during a Wednesday afternoon meeting.

The school’s nominating committee recommended the appointment of Angela Suggs and Jeremy Hawsey to the board, for six total members. The board voted 4-0 to accept a portion of the recommendation and name Suggs to the board. She is a Town of Century office employee with children that attended elementary school at Byrneville.

Board members tabled action on the addition of Hawsey, a Brewton attorney, or another candidate to the board, until a future meeting.

The board appointed Michelle Driskell as secretary, Brandy Carter as treasurer and Tammy Jo Smith as vice-chair. Melanie Killam was reappointed as chairperson.

Byrneville Elementary School is a charter school with its own board of directors responsible for the school’s operation. The next meeting of the Byrneville Elementary School Board of Directors will be Wednesday, November 16 at 3:30 p.m.

Thank you for covering the Byrneville Elementary School, Inc. Board of Directors Meeting. These ladies deserve all the recognition and thanks our school and our community can give them. They devote a great deal of time, care, concern, and love to the school and through that to the community’s children and the community at large – with nothing in return than the satisfaction of service.
I also want to take this opportunity to publicly thank them for the support they and others who have served on the Board have given me this our fifteenth year and years past as a charter school. Our school could not be the success, or the place of love and caring, that it is without them.
