Dozens Of Holman Prison Inmates Refuse To Work

September 10, 2016

The Alabama Department of Corrections is reporting an inmate work stoppage at the Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore.

Friday morning, prison officials reported that group of approximately 10 inmates did not report to the facility’s kitchen for preparing the morning meal.   Later Friday, approximately 35 inmates assigned to the facility’s tag plant that produces the state’s license plates took part in the work stoppage.

The warden and correctional officers have maintained proper security inside the facility, and ADOC staff are delivering routine services to the inmates without incident, according to the ADOC.   In addition, ADOC has a contingency plan to assign inmates from a nearby work release center in Atmore to operate the tag plant if the work stoppage continues.

Inmates participating in the work stoppage at Holman have made no demands, and overall they have been cooperative in their peaceful protest.   The work stoppage is isolated to Holman Correctional Facility, which is not on lockdown. There are no reports of inmates participating in the work stoppage at the remaining 27 state correctional facilities.

Earlier this month, a corrections officer at Holman was left in critical condition after being stabbed. Prison officials reported that the inmate assaulted and stabbed the officer in retaliation for being denied an extra tray of food during the noon meal.

    To Christopher, the FUNNY man,
Girds put their lives in danger EVERY TIME they enter those gates. Since you find this amusing, it may serve you well to go entertain some of these inmates for awhile!
My opinion is these CRIMINALS are owed NOTHING! Silent protest or not.

You won’t work, you don’t eat.

This condition could be cured in a matter of minutes, however we live in a morally bankrupt/politically correct society.

If you wonder why we did not have these problems in the past, it is because in the old days the inmates knew better. The inmates knew that they would have been back to work, as soon and if they were able to walk again!

Every prisoner in every prison in this country ought to be on their knees every day thanking God that I am not in charge of them. Because basically, about all that would be on the inside walls would be an echo. In this case there would immediately be ten empty cells. The inmates are literally running the asylum these days.

This “sit down” is part of a nation wide protest by inmates who are doing it in honor of the Attica riot anniversary. There are issues in Florida prisons as well. Some inmates are refusing to work, others are rioting and destroying dorms.

Government seems to think inmates need to be treated kinder and more gentle. Those who think that need to work a few days in prison, they would quickly sing a different tune.

I bet if someone refused to turn on the A/C, refused to let them out of their cells and refused to feed them they’d figure out pretty quick how to get their lazy carcasses back to work. You’re in prison because you violated a law or someone ELSES rights. It’s not a vacation morons. You have no rights except the right to do your time.

So, what exactly are they protesting? That daily grind of getting up, going to work, and supporting a household?

They don’t want to report to the kitchen to prepare meals then give them a loaf of bread and some water and be done with this mess.

That’s easy to solve, no work no food.

if the state would quit worrying about their rights and concentrate on the punishment they are in for this might change. stop feeding them and see how long it takes to change the behavior pattern.
