ATV Driver That Hit Van Last Week Passes Away

September 6, 2016

A young man critically injured in the collision of a three-wheel ATV and a van last week in Canoe, AL, has passed away as the result of his injuries.

Cody Johns, 19, was riding the ATV westbound on the shoulder of the road when collided with the side of a van at a stop sign about 7:40 a.m. on September 1..  His view of the approaching van was likely blocked due to a building on the corner of the intersection.

The accident happened about 7:40 a.m. September 1 at the intersection of Highway 31 and South Canoe Road, about two miles north of the state line. Johns was transported to an area hospital; he passed away early Sunday afternoon.

The driver of the van was not injured. The accident remains under investigation.

Prayers for this young man’s family and friends. I was the last person that spoke to him before the accident at the gas station in Canoe. I told him I had a 3 wheeler like that one when I was young and that you don’t see them in that good of shape anymore. He said to me that he had like 4 more at home. As I pulled out to go on to work, he pulls out beside me except in the ditch where there was an.obvious beaten path
