ATV Driver Seriously Injured After Hitting Van

September 1, 2016

One person was injured in the collision of a three-wheel ATV and a van this morning in Canoe, AL, just about two miles north of the state line.

The accident happened about 7:40 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 31 and South Canoe Road. It appeared the adult male driver of the ATV was riding westbound on the shoulder of Highway 31 approaching South Canoe Road when collided with the side of the van. The ATV driver’s view of the approaching van was possibly blocked due to a building on the corner of the intersection.

The ATV driver was transported by Atmore Ambulance to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the van was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.

How about instead of debating… you should just pray for him and his family right now.

I went to school with Cody, and he has a pure heart of gold. That boy wouldn’t hurt a fly! If he could have done anything differently about it, he would have. People lose control of things all the time. There is not one person in this world that is perfect!!

i would never judge, having had many sky blue, earth brown moments myself on dirtbikes, meetings with pavement on streetbikes, & one car, going slow enough that i just kinda bounced off it. so, no, never judge anyone that has an accident. i hope the poor guy makes a full & speedy recovery.

Stop judging, because I know y’all ain’t no where near as perfect as you want to seem. You don’t know this young man, or his situation. He popped down to the gas station, something he rarely does, to get a drink. I personally know this young man. He’s bright, with a heart of a gold. He was literally at my momma’s house a few days ago, laughing and enjoying life. Things happen. Accidents happen. Yes, you’re not supposed to ride alongside the road on an ATV. But you can be in a car, and come around a blind corner like he did, and side swipe someone.

Presently, he is now on life support after a blood clot traveled from his leg that he just had surgery on, to his heart. He went into cardiac arrest. So, how about instead of judging and throwing in “your two cents” when don’t know him, you all give us some prayers instead. They’re much more needed.

This is his older brother. He’s been riding ATVs since he was knee high to a grass hopper and he knows how to properly drive. He was on his way to work from the gas station, since work isn’t two minutes from our house. We are not the type to be careless and we have never road in anyone else’s yard unless we’ve had permission. He was on the side of the road because there is a spot where people do walk so why couldn’t he ride on it. He lost control of the three wheeler and he did everything he could to save it and stop from hitting the van. Y’all can sit here and debate if there illegal or not but my little brother is in the hospital right now fighting for his life so please come off of it.

As someone who knows cody, he was not tearing up anyone’s property or driving like an idiot, he had to have made a careless mistake and he is now paying dearly for it, as he has had complications and is in icu. Instead of acting as if we know what happened let’s try praying for this kid. I have watched him grow up, and he has become a role model to my kids, and he is loved.

Seems like I remember them being banned, Honda quit making them, they were the only ones that made a 3wheeler. I could be wrong, but they had a big industry going, with a racing franchise for them & all, with a big enthusiast base. Honda would not have quit making them without good reason, like a ban. I will check into this & get back to ya on this, like I said I could be wrong. I love the internet, it is full of Mr. Correcto The Fact Marshalls. :)

In the late 80s the sell of 3 wheeled ATVs were banned for 10 years and no company chose to manufacture them after the ban was lifted. They were never banned for owners who already purchased them.

I am truly sorry the rider is hurting this morning; however, as an adult male rider, he should have known that possibly something lurked on the other side of that building.

Yes, I know, we’re all critics. I’m an adult female. I don’t play in the street, especially at one of the busiest times of the day!

I live in canoe and there are lots of careless atv riders on these roads. They were just down the road cutting donuts on someone else’s personal property this afternoon.

Whether 2 , 3, or 4 wheels, the results would have been the same or worse!

They were never banned. It’s the operators fault, not the vehicle.

wow, have not seen a honda 3wheeler in years, those were banned years ago bcuz too many kids were getting hurt on them. just think how they’d have done on a real 2wheeled dirtbike. stick to the 4wheeled atvs so you don’t fall down go boom. :)
