New Three Story, 50 Unit Apartment Complex Planned For Century

July 12, 2016

A new 50-unit apartment complex is planned for Century, according to Mayor Freddie McCall.

McCall told the Century Town Council Monday night that the “Century Park Apartments” will be constructed on Second Street, which is the entrance to the parking lot of of the Bill G. Ward Courthouse.

The complex includes two, three-story buildings and 125 parking spaces. Sixteen of the apartments will be 984 square feet with two bedrooms and one bath, while 22 will be 1,119 square feet with three bedrooms and two baths. There will also be 12 apartments with 1,291 square feet with four bedrooms and two baths.

Some of the apartments will be reserved for low income residents, McCall said.

Century Park Apartment plans show the Royal American Construction company in Panama City to currently currently be accepting bids on the project. The developer is the Paces Foundation of Smyrna, GA.

A construction timetable and other details have not yet been announced.

I doubt traffic with this added would be appreciably busier than it was back when the court house was active and driver’s tests were given.

Still, a traffic light to sit and watch change can be great entertainment.
I especially enjoy when the light seems to see a car coming and go from green to red just to stop it.

    David for simple entertainment

They need to visit Smyrna, Georgia and see the many apartment buildings that have been bought by the city to demolish. They need to see how low cost housing brings in bad elements. They need to talk with city police about the crime. One cannot walk many of the streets in Smyrna at night. For five years, it will be kept up, then the tax breaks end and you will have squalor. Just visit Franklin Road in Marietta, Georgia where the city was forced to buy up what were high end apartments that fell into ruin and crime. You can look it all up in the police reports. For a thirty pieces of silver, Century is asking to become a toilet. I would look at campaign contributions and who donated them too. It is always about the quick dollar.

Glad to hear about the development. But concerned that this will be another drug and prostitution infested place, like century woods and oakwood village.

The north side of the county needs jobs. Where are these people going to work? I wish the county would make it more encouraging to build a Wal Mart or something .

In researching the developer, it’s a non-profit builder who provides nice homes to those struggling to live on a tight, limited or low income budget . It gives people hope and the opportunity to be proud of where they call home.

With that said, do you really see anyone in Century being able to afford to rent an apt for the average rent of $900 a month working at the Library, Bank, Pharmacy, Fast food or Dollar General? People have to live somewhere right, so why not provide clean, safe and respectable apartments for Century’s residents, no matter their sex, race, age, income status or etc…can’t we all just get along and be happy for one another and be happy that Century might attract something to be proud of for a change? I agree with Puddin….if they do build this, we are certainly going to need a red light installed at the end of West Hwy.4 and Hwy.29. It’s already a challenge to exit that intersection and not get. And while your at it…..PLEASE pave West Hwy.4, it’s terrible road to travel on. Thx

@ Puddin Do you live in Century? I work there and have for a good while and don’t see much opportunity for a luxury community. Could you afford 500 or more a month? Very few people in Century could dueasily to the lack of opportunity.

I think this is wonderful. I look forward to more updates as this becomes a reality. I believe the mayor and town council realize that their collective vision, experience and knowledge is a valuable asset to our community. As they use their tenacity to improve Century, it can become reality.
I still think a distribution type warehouse could do well but in the industrial park.
    Amazon perhaps.
I know you have a grant for rezoning and future land use and planning.
Why not a River Walk like Milton?
I am just now realizing the complexities of making changes, a hope, an idea then the daunting task of figuring how to implement it is an amazing process.
I have a new appreciation for the work or planning that has to be done locally and the more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know.
God Bless Century and her leaders and residents each and everyone.
Future residents I hope you cherish your new homes.

I’m sure the town of Century needs this. It would ALSO be Great if the Builder of the units Bought Local and used the Local Trade. These builders bring in their own
material and labor from out of town.

This is not a low income apartment complex per the mayor’s statement. SOME of the apartments will be reserved for low income. That’s common in a lot of apartment complexes; it opens up different funding options for the developer.

  15. Beautiful on July 12th, 2016 7:37 am

That’s going to be so pretty. I’m pretty sure that low-income people going to really appreciate it.

  16. Puddin on July 12th, 2016 6:51 am

Not being ugly here. I’m just wondering why more low income apartments? We already have Camilia Gardens and Century Woods. Why not some luxury apartments?

  17. Puddin on July 12th, 2016 6:49 am

Do they plan to put in a traffic light at 29 & 4? That’s already a tough intersection during peak traffic hours.
