Latest Evers Giveaway: A Chance To Shoot Machine Guns

July 7, 2016

State Sen. Greg Evers, running in a crowded Republican primary for a Northwest Florida congressional seat, will hold a fund-raising event where donors can pay up to $2,700 for a chance to shoot a variety of military-style machine guns. Evers, a Baker Republican, will also give a prize to the shooter who “kills” Osama Bin Laden, a news release said.

Evers drew heat last month over his decision to give away an AR-15 assault rifle, similar to a gun used in the Orlando nightclub attack that left 49 people dead and dozens more injured.

“Since some folks don’t understand the difference between an AR-15 and a real assault rifle capable of automatic fire, we’re going to show them,” Evers said. “I think people will get a big kick out of seeing what a real assault rifle can do, and they’ll have even more fun shooting up simulated terrorists.”

Evers, who frequently sponsored National Rifle Association-backed legislation in the Legislature, will hold the event at the Pensacola Indoor Shooting Range on July 23. The event will feature six fully automatic machine guns, including two military-grade M-16 assault rifles and four varieties of submachine guns. According to the press release, the weapons are “extremely restricted,” but it is legal to fire them on a supervised gun range.

Evers is among the candidates in Congressional District 1, which became open when longtime U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller announced he would not seek re-election this year.

OK. I promise my blood is on ice ,lol. But I can think of a whole lot of things to give money to rather than the chance to fire a machine gun. We need training on our own guns for sure, but I would be lying if I told you I think it is fun. All I want is the first shot
if someone approaches me in a parking lot or enters my home.

@sedition– I know you can buy flamethrowers– but why?

To use against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

  3. I like it.....however, on July 7th, 2016 7:48 pm

I think it’s a really fun way to raise campaign money, way better than some boring $2,700 dollar dinner which politicians do regularly.

However, I wonder how people outside of NW Florida feel about this sort of thing?

Here is a novel idea. If you disagree with an event or function then don’t participate. No matter what is said, this is going to happen and if you find it offensive, don’t watch.

@Molino Jim, 10 year mandatory sentence on a federal felony, for altering the sear on a semi-auto, to produce full auto fire.

Keep a diamond dust fingernail file on hand, for when the government goes bankrupt and laws become null and void.

@ learn to read. Thank you I can read well. I’ll ask back— how many rounds can you fire for five or ten dollars? I recall the gun meets at Brush Creek Range in Ky the rounds are close to 50-75 cents each. Ask Evans that question please. @sedition– I know you can buy flamethrowers– but why? I’m also aware that a good gun smith can alter a semi automatic to fire full auto.

@Lars, the weapon you are referencing is the Gordon Ingram designed, Military Armament Corporation produced .45ACP caliber MAC-10.

The weapon in the photo is a 9mm caliber Mac-11, probably produced by Cobra Arms. The MAC-10 has a much thicker receiver as opposed to the leaner MAC-11.

The .45ACP is a subsonic round as opposed to the supersonic 9mm. When you fire the MAC-10 with a sonic suppressor, the only thing you hear is the clang of the bolt as the weapon cycles. A silencer is a waste on the 9mm unless the rounds are loaded subsonic velocities.

Things are different on the range as opposed to the movies.

@learn to read, be careful about throwing those stones. The guns in the picture are a Mac-10, Kris Vector and some variant of an M-16/AR-15.

This whole idea is sick. Have fun shooting up? Try Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, etc. Those people know what assault weapons can do and they don’t call burying a loved one entertainment.

I would love the chance to shoot those machine guns.

@Molino Jim, tell it as it is Jimbo.

There is no place for guns in todays modern, multicultural America.

When did shooting machine guns, or any guns for that matter, become a “good Christian value”, or did I miss something in the reading of the Gospel? I agree with Molino Jim, it’s time Mr. Evers goes back to the farm!

It clearly states up to 2700 not 2700 being the minimum and also that is a uzi not a tech 9 thats the problem people think they know something obviously they know nothing about

  15. Sedition on July 7th, 2016 10:23 am

I hate to tell you molino jim…flamethrowers are not federaly regulated. They are perfectly legal.

  16. molino jim on July 7th, 2016 7:29 am

Looks as if it’s about time for Evers to go back to farming. How many people in his district have an extra $ 2700. dollars to throw away just to fire a fully automatic weapon. So that no one gets on my case I do have guns. i also believe in the right to carry and to protect myself and family. What’s next — a home flamethrower or a claymore mine to protect your property. He would appear to do what ever his NRA handlers tell him what to do. I wonder how many people could use 2700. dollars for food and medical care.

We are standing ready Senator Evers, watching, listening, waiting.

The leadership, management skills and good Christian values of Senator Evers, is what America needs to cure her ills.

Looks like a TEC-9 in that picture?
