Police Issue Warning After Smashing Window To Save Puppy From Hot Car
June 28, 2016
The Pensacola Police Department has issued a warning about leaving pets in a hot vehicle, after smashing a window to save a puppy.
“Don’t. Just don’t. If you leave your dog in a hot car and that dog is suffering, we will do whatever we have to do to free him. Or her. Doesn’t matter, we like both kinds of dogs. We will drive your pooch to the caring folks at the Escambia County Animal Shelter and we will drop you off with the caring folks at the Escambia County Detention Facility. You will both receive attention, food, and shelter, albeit different kinds. So, don’t,” the PPD posted on Facebook Tuesday afternoon, along with the two photos on this page.

I love puppies so much and it is so sad to hear about the puppy
Phil is an idiot.
Anyone who leaves animals or kids in cars deserves what they get! End of story! Well done PPD!
@Phil, I would have smashed the window myself and then called the police.
@Phil : If you’re worried about the cost of the window, then obey the law. Leaving an animal in a closed-up vehicle in the heat is illegal, and the officers were complying with regulations.
@Phil
You sound like you would be the kind of creep to do this to a defenseless animal or human. Thank God the PPD was there to prevent a death. Keep up the good work officers!
Lady at Marvin’s in Atmore let me bring my little dog in Sunday; don’t know her name but what a kind thing to do in order to protect the dog….I was only in the store a minute but I asked if she could come in and she said yes. Tractor Supply will also allow pets in the store.
If this were a child they’d have taken all the children. No one wants to see an animal in the pound but perhaps they should take them all away temporarily and make the owner show they can be responsible enough to have the dogs back. Give them a court date and as community service they can work at the shelter and see what happens to abused, mistreated and unwanted animals.
Considering the story, lack of responsibility on the part of an adult this could have very easily been a child instead of a puppy. Please remember, for all, that may read this…to pass it on…a car will heat to 120 degrees in no time flat. An adult would die in that situation! There are so many warnings about this issue. Are folks just not reading or listening?
Thanks NE for making more aware of the danger.
Thank you, LEO!
Good job.
Don’t leave your pet in the car. Don’t leave your kid in the car.
thank you PPD great Job! Put the owner in a hot car and leave them and see how they do!!!
Mama dog probably died in the vehicle last week. Where is sheriff Joe when we need him. I think a week in a tent outside right now might make a believer of this person.
PPD should pay for the window, and charges brought against the thug that broke it!
I’m glad they saved this baby, and yes it looks to small to be away from it’s momma.
Wow. What a great write up. I concur 100%. What a precious pup and thank goodness the PoPo was there to save this pup’s life. Throw the bum in the slammer.
Officers protect and serve to all life…thank you PPD,ECSO,EMS,FIREFIGHTERS,FIRST RESPONDERS,HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS
If you must take your pet with you while running errands, plan ahead. Bring a spare key and leave the AC running while you dash in and out of stores. That way, the pet gets the benefit of cool air while you get the benefit of knowing your pet is taken care of in a locked car!
you have no business having an animal, regardless of type if you do this, you are incompetent, immoral and have no integrity or heart. I will gladly smash in your window if I see this.
That pup looks too small to be away from its momma..
Well said!
