Escambia Man Charged In 2015 Fatal Crash

June 16, 2016

A man who drove his truck into a home on East Mallory Street last year and killed a woman who was sitting in the living room has been arrested.

John Dye, 31, was charged with vehicular homicide by the Pensacola Police Department, and his bond was set at $100,000.

The incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. May 3, 2015.  Sgt. Danny Lawrence said Donna Sue Alexander, 52, of Pensacola was sitting in her living room in the 1600 block of East Mallory Street when a Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck driven by Dye crashed into the house. Lawrence said Alexander died at the scene.

Lawrence said Dye was northbound on 17th Avenue when the truck left the road, struck the house and entered the living room. The investigation determined Dye was intoxicated from inhaling Endust for Electronics Multi-Purpose Duster. A chemical in the duster may cause loss of consciousness, loss of control, grogginess, and an overall dazed appearance, according to police.

Lawrence said the investigation determined the duster can, which was recovered from Dye’s vehicle, revealed his DNA on the nozzle in addition to his fingerprints on the can.

John is not a horrible man, I went to school with him. There are two lives ruined here.
Donna whose family lost a beautiful person and John. He was a troubled young man that I met while attending classes at Pensacola State College. He could be very kind but he was so full of inner pain that often caused him to make very poor decisions, It saddens me to see these lives ruined. Each one of us has so much to give and now we have lost two people and nothing can ever repair this kind of damage.

While my heart goes out to the victim and there family. This will never hold up in court I’m quite sure everything that we have in our cars has our dna on it. So unless there is a confession or a witness that seen the person using the inhalants then this will be a very tuff case to convict

With his DNA on the nozzle is proof he intentionally put this material in his body and now he has to pay the price. What is the price of an innocent life taken by the actions of a man that intentionally ingested a chemical that is known to create these effects on a human body. JUSTUSFORALL. GETERDONE.

Thanks FHP for doing such a great investigation. John Dye thought he could get away from this and thought he was free.
