May 26, 2016

A woman was injured when she was hit by her own vehicle in a convenience store parking lot early Thursday morning.

About 2:30 a.m., the woman was reportedly working on her vehicle in the parking lot of the Tom Thumb on Highway 29 at West Roberts Road when it jumped into gear, dragging the woman across the parking lot. The vehicle then ran over the woman before crossing West Roberts Road and hitting a privacy fence.

The woman was transported to an area hospital by Escambia County EMS.

The accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Further details have not been released.

The Ensley Station of Escambia Fire Rescue also responded.

@ CW “Modern vehicles don’t “jump into gear” without the brake pedal being pressed first. There’s probably more to this story.” The most intelligent comment as it is the only one that tells it like it is! I too hope the lady was not seriously hurt and that she makes a speedy recovery!

I noticed long ago we tend to call them Emergency Brakes, implying they should only be used in an emergency.
They are actually named Parking Brakes as if we should use them every time we park.

I have owned one for years and its the best vehicle ive ever had…..sounds like maybe the shift cable….mine went out and then it wont go into gear….a common problem.

Oh my, that is funny. I know cars will have problems but this way to much. lol. @ Pat sounds like a Stephen King novel, It sure does. How did she do it I would like to know. I hope she recovers ok.

Pat, I’m with you. This has “Christine” or “From a Buick Eight” written all over it.

My Trailblazer was the best vehicle I ever had: it broke my heart to trade it in after I drove it for 9 years. It probably wasn’t “in gear” to start with. Prayers for a speedy recovery!!

wow, some comments crack me up. First off, it’s NOT a Blazer, it’s a Trailblazer and overall they have a pretty good service record when compared to other makes of cars in that class. I mean, a comparable Land Rover will cost you $70k and give you more problems. The emergency brake was a good call. If it’s running and you think you’re having problems while you work on it, set the brake. That being said, cars don’t just “jump in gear”. Something causes it to do that, wiggle a cable wrong, hit a shifter linkage or maybe…just maybe it was in gear when she tried to get out of it and it proceeded to drag her across the road? Either way, I hope she recovers with no problems.

Just when you think you have heard it all….guess hind sight only leaves one thing….set the emergency brake people

There’s an Emergency Brake on vehicles for good reason! She’s lucky to be alive–hope she was not badly injured.

I pray she is going to be okay. Them Chevy blazers are problematic I had one and will probably never buy a other GM vehicle, even so more now than ever since it became Government Motors.
