‘Lava Java’ Coffee Shop Hit By Car In Two Vehicle Wreck

May 31, 2016

A popular Cantonment drive thru coffee shop is temporarily closed after being struck by a vehicle during a traffic accident Monday afternoon.

Details on the accident on Highway 29 near Muscogee Road have not been released by the Florida Highway Patrol, but we do know it involved a pickup truck and a passenger car. Two people in the accident refused treatment, while two others were transported to a Pensacola hospital by ambulance.

Following the initial collision between vehicles, the car struck the Lava Java Coffee Drive Thru,  pushing the business several feet. A young man working inside the coffee shop received non-life threatening injuries, including a fractured foot.

The FHP is continuing their investigation into the accident.

NorthEscambia.com is told Lava Java will be closed for rebuilding, but will be back open as soon as possible.

Speeding while the road is wet & trying to crossover at a very high speed is definitely not acceptable, me & my daughter wss in the car that hit the coffee shop, & lives could’ve been taken. Im so glad God had his angels protecting us.

Right there on Hwy 29 is a double solid yellow line. From what I was told by a FHP (after a prior accident) a few years ago, crossing that double line to turn left as one is heading South on Hwy 29 is a ‘no-no’. There are so many units there…including a day care center…that they need to put in a lane for cross-overs to take the waiting vehicles out of the line of fire. As they wait to cross over, the traffic behind them have crashed into the back ends on numerous occasions and sent them flying into the oncoming traffic.

Sometimes a little humor helps a serious situation. If you don’t like it, tough. I can tell without question you’ve never served in the military. Total life and death. You “HAVE” to find something humorous just to survive.

You are taking your life in your hands walking down the street in Cantonment anymore, seems like. Anybody else notice the amount & severity of the wrecks in the area lately? More than it’s fair share, & it ain’t for lack of traffic lights. This should be catching the attention of the state, not to mention the NHTSA, as 29 is a US highway.

Pass thru Cantonment with paranoia & trepidation, same as Ensley, esp when you get into the Detroit Blvd & south of there area. Matter of fact, anywhere below 9 Mile Road, just to be safe.

Consider everyone blind, then add stereos, children in the backseat, & above all CELLPHONES, & you get a clear picture of what I’m talking about. Everybody be safe & drive careful. :)

Jokes about this incident is tasteless. I’m just glad that everyone involved was okay and I hope the coffee shop and their employee have a speedy recovery!!

I know Kelli K personally and her Husband are wonderful folks and would help anyone they could. Folks are just teasing a little to make things a little lighter I’m sure we are all concern for our Favorite Little Coffee shop and Austin. But it could have been worse. It will get repaired and back up and running even better. We live in a great community where we all care for each other as we should!!!

I had just seen the owner and her son earlier that day, I was so worried he might have been up there with her when I heard about this. I hope the young man that was working heals well and that they’re able to reopen as soon as possible.

A wreck where people could have been killed is not funny or to be made light of
    Life is not a joke

We just love this place! I haven’t had a drink that I didn’t like and often times can’t make a decision due to that very reason…lol
The owners are wonderful people and God will help them through all of this and they will come back better and stronger than before.
