Escambia County Seeks Volunteers For Two Boards

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is seeking Escambia County residents interested in volunteering to be considered for an appointment to the Value Adjustment Board or the Escambia County Planning Board.

Value Adjustment Board:

The VAB provides for the hearing of all petitions, complaints, appeals and disputes concerning taxable assessment of properties. The term of office is one year.

The Board of County Commissioners’ VAB appointee must meet the following requirements to be eligible to serve:

  • Must own homestead property in Escambia County.
  • Cannot be a member or employee of any taxing authority.
  • Cannot represent property owners in any administrative or judicial review of property taxes.

Escambia residents interested in serving on the Value Adjustment Board are asked to submit a resume and letter indicating their desire to serve by 5 p.m. Friday, May 6. Resumes and letters should be submitted via email to jhwitter@myescambia.com or by mail to:

The VAB was established in accordance with Section 194.015, Florida Statutes, which was revised on September 1, 2008. The VAB meets for approximately 30-40 minutes twice a year, usually in September and December.

Planning Board:

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is seeking Escambia County residents interested in volunteering to be considered for an at-large appointment to the Escambia County Planning Board.

At-large members serve a two-year term of office and attend one meeting per month (generally the first Tuesday of the month). Meetings are generally from 8:30 a.m. to no later than 12:00 p.m.; however, occasionally may go beyond 12:00 p.m., depending upon the agenda. No travel is involved unless the Planning Board Members decide to view a particular property for informational purposes. Financial Disclosure is required.

Escambia County residents interested in being considered for a possible appointment to the Escambia County Planning Board to begin serving in July 2016 are asked to submit a resume and letter indicating their desire to serve by close of business on Friday, May 6, 2016.
