Driver Flees Scene After Wreck

A driver apparently fled a single vehicle traffic crash near Highway 97 in Walnut Hill early Tuesday morning.

Just after 12:30 a.m. a resident of Highway 97 reported hearing a vehicle passing her home at a high rate of speed before hearing tire screeching and a crash. The vehicle had hit a tree at Highway 97 and Howell Road. The driver then continued a short distance down Howell Road before abandoning the vehicle.

The accident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia Fire Rescue and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash.

    Hit and Runs are starting to becoming place. Time for lawmakers to make leaving the scene of an accident causing injury or death the same punishable offense as that of causing an accident while under the influence. Criminals are being rewarded for leaving the scene while people lie injured or dead.

    You see what happened was, a deer ran out in front of me I swerved hit the tree, hit my head had a concussion, wandered around in the woods for hours before I came to my senses and then called for a ride. But I didn’t remember where my car was.

    Are those blood stains on the seat.. appeared he had a lap topool or whatever plugged in. Can they ping the cell towers who called in that area . Likely for a ride. I say as ,that guy, check out the ID tag hanging. DUH

    Stolen or reported so after the accident? Avoided a DUI & can still make a claim on insurance this way, eh? :)
