Residents Report Series Of ‘Explosions’ For A Second Week
April 17, 2016
For the second consecutive week, numerous residents across a portion of the North Escambia area reported hearing and feeling multiple strong “explosions” or “booms” Saturday night.
Residents from Pensacola to miles north of Brewton and Flomaton reported varying levels of impact, all the way up to their entire homes and the ground shaking, along with a loud explosion sound. The majority of the reports we received came from the Flomaton, Century and Jay areas.
No explanation for the reports was found Saturday night.

I always sad jay and surrounding areas would eventually be a sinkhole amazing it might actually be happening now
The answer might be elusive, but for those who report knowledge of a CO with the overt fondness for larger amounts of Tannerite, just please call Homeland Security and report it. Nobody has the right to be that big of a nuisance neighbor, and being explosion-happy isn’t a very good psychological indicator for anyone in corrections or law enforcement.
And if it inst the CO, Homeland will still look into it. I live in Cottage Hill and haven’t heard a single peep except for the CSX trains and the concrete pip casting plant on 95A and Quintette (and even they aren’t as loud as what I hear y’all describing).
The explanation is quite obvious and simple….the upcoming antithesis of the autumnal equinox creates a bilateral divergence of air pressure related to the El Nino effect on the jet stream, resulting in amplification of the changes in g forces as related to the forming full moon. Who wouldn’t know that?
I live off Wolf Log Rd in Flomaton. We had a guy on one side that shot his gun all hrs of the day/night, now he’s gone. Our other neighbor is shooting this stuff off we can’t do anything about it, he’s on his property. I’m sick & tired of it, people have no respect for anyone anymore. When their “fun” rattles my house & knocks things off the wall, then their “fun” should be limited. In case all the stupid people just having “fun” don’t know it, we are being attacked left & right, & their “fun” terrifies people, thinking that these booms could be terrorism you never know anymore. I say grow up!!
Around 9 PM we heard a boom out Hwy 41 near Wallace area. Did not shake windows was just boom loud enough it stopped us both and we asked the other what was that.
I wonder if it could be from the gas and oil industry nearby. Do they inject wastewater into the ground when they drill? Is USGS or EPA or DEP looking into this? It could be very serious.
It may or may not be tannerite.
A quick google search of the ingredients and you’ll understand why it’s not illegal.
Yes it’s big and powerful. Recall what brought down the federal building in oklahoma was in the same chemical family as this stuff. This however needs a rifle to set it off.
A violation of a noise ordinance perhaps might be the best way to regulate it’s use.
When used for it’s designed purpose of exploding targets it’s great.
Idiots building bombs and posting YouTube videos has become a problem. It also becomes unsafe in quantity.
Yall are hearing tannerite begin shoot…yes it can and does shake the ground and house mile away..and yes as crazy as it sounds and truely is ..you can buy this stuff at academy and on line…the law says that you can’t have but a certain amount but all there buddy buy the stuff and put it together and shoot it with a high powdered rifle and it goes off….they need to outlaw the stuff ..if anyone can get this stuff than terrorist can get it to..Google it tannerite exploding target …this people doing this don’t care if it shake picture off your wall are wakes your kids..call the cops and they tell you there nothing they can do but this explosion that are being heard and felt are illegal because of the amount being mixed together …call the atf..
My wife and I could hear loud booms. We live in the Westop Pensacola area and where just coming home after eating out. My wife as me did I heAR the boom at first I did not but once I parked car and got out I could hear several loud booms. I dismissed it as fireworks. After seeing this I as am not so sure now.
Gas exploration people setting charges for weeks during hunting season in the Jay Berrydale area. They said would be coming back to set charges off. The way they explained it would be only a thud nothing dramatic. Reading this I do recall an explosion in Blackwater State forest not too far from Ruths store. I was in tree stand right before dark. Very large explosion! Made my ears rings. First thing that came to mind was an accident at the pipeline lift station or whatever they call it. But no sirens or anything liked that followed. Brother-in-law hear from his tree stand in Berrydale at ten miles away. This was the end of January this year.
@smarterthanmost
Since you are so smart…last week we did hear detonators before the explosions, that’s how close it was to our property thru the woods! And laughing afterwards! Not sure who was actually on the property, many ways in, but one day it won’t be laughter we hear, it may be screaming from pain! So if a law gets changed that saves a life, I actually think it’s worth it, don’t you?
From the Century/Flomaton Area about 9 or 10 pm from our location sounded like it may have been near Big Escambia Creek and the AL/FL state line. It was a loud boom followed by a few seconds of rumbles that vibrated the house. The trains going by vibrate the house but not this much. It sounded a lot like a severe thunderclap yet no such weather in the area. Note on a larger scale, Earthquakes in Ecuador and Japan very recently had us curious what an Earthquake sounded or felt like and found a very interesting article on the History of Earthquakes in Florida on the USGS site. Reports of sounds such as these were noted in the area long before sonic airplanes, gas lines, Black Cat Fireworks etc.( in the 1700 and 1800s) so earthquake is a possibility though the USGS map showed no activity, not sure if they are looking here though.
Most likely not tannerite because of the distance. We have a County C.O. who appears to get off on tannerite— asking him to not blow it up is of no use. The county commission passed an ordinance not to use it in our area. Calling the SO is of little use because by the time they can come out he stops. There was a partition sighing by about 40 people in the one mile area around him asking him to please stop. Needless to say he will not speak to any of us any more.
All of ucsayin tannerite are crazy the amount it would take for a blast that loud would be huge and everybody jumping saying it was kids your gonna have more laws made to limit what kind of bullets and other ammo u can but I have shot tannerite and u have to have a high power rifle to set it off so someone should have heard gun shots first smoke ploom there would be evidence it’s something else
This same vibration occurred over two weeks ago during a weekday. It shook my office near the University and simultaneously knocked pictures off my wall 6 miles away. I live near Gonzalez. This is scary, like an earthquake might feel. Didn’t notice a sound with it.
Something called atmospheric ducting allowed the Blue Wahoos fireworks to be heard in places well out of normal audible range. When weather conditions permit, atmospheric ducting allows loud noises, thunder typically, to be transmitted in one direction long distances. The Wahoos shot fireworks both weeks the same times both sets of explosions were reported.
The explosion was so loud it shook my house, scared the crap out of me.
Dear Not Really,
I didn’t say what you heard 60 miles away was the same thing we heard in our little community.
And yes I’ve looked it up, you can buy it at your local Academy store.
Now if there are limits to purchase, I believe our young people do this as a group!
So yes given the things you can buy in stores now I believe it.
But at the end of the day if they aren’t bothering anyone with it, not disturbing the peace, their right to buy it if it’s sold in stores, and is legal.
@not really
I’m not sure but you can buy explosives off the shelve.
Up the recommended quantity, who knows.
But there are some interesting videos on YouTube.
>You really think you can buy and explosive of the shelf at the sporting goods store that is powerful enough to rattle houses and windows 60 miles away?
Actually you can if you have deep enough pockets. But my thinking is this wasn’t tannerite. It would take a very large amount to be heard and felt as far away as this was, not to mention someone would’ve seen smoke plume, and hear the high powered caliber weapon it takes to make it explode.
We live just off Wolf Log Rd in , Flomaton it rattled my windows and shook my house. It sounded as if it was in my back yard. It happened twice yesterday.
There are people leaving all kinds of comments on FB that it is tannerite, I’m not positive it is, but, if it is, these people, (children I’m sure) need to be careful.
Not only could this possibly be a danger to them but to others. It doesn’t appear that they care much about others though, I mean really what kind of person would continue to do this? It is NOT funny!
IF it is attention you are seeking you have gotten it. You have gotten your laugh by scaring people young and old, the police are very busy trying to find out what it was,or is, the local reporters are talking about it, and anyone and everyone that has heard or felt it is gossiping, posting and taking about. it.
PLEASE find something a little more constructive, & less bothersome to do, with what I am sure is your parent’s money.
>>it’s tannerite an explosive that can be bought
You really think you can buy and explosive of the shelf at the sporting goods store that is powerful enough to rattle houses and windows 60 miles away?
I’ve been told it’s tannerite an explosive that can be bought at Academy. You can watch it on YouTube.
Not the gospel, just what I was told it probably was. Just people making other people
wonder I guess.
Hope in their idea of fun, no one gets hurt.
Possibly seismograph blast? I know they came through the Riverview area about 2 weeks ago said they where headed south across the state line.
It’s funny, it’s always on a Saturday night! When the FUN is going on!
I let the beat drop, sorry
Felt it here in Byrneville again, not as strong as last week. Probably same thing as last week, just moved to a new location! Just hope nobody gets hurt doing this one day!
Heard it in Jay also last night…it sounded close…..
My husband use to work on pipeline in this area he said it could be the gas pockets getting air.very dangerous if that what it is..
Heard and felt it in the Eastern half of Flomaton tonight. It was so powerful it rattled the windows and pictures in the house. Would really love to know what happened.
