AT&T Employee Killed In Traffic Crash

April 3, 2016

The Florida Highway Patrol has released the identity of an AT&T employee that died as the result of a traffic crash Thursday at intersection of Davis Highway and Olive Road.

The FHP said late Saturday that 45-year old Willie Ray Bonds was pronounced deceased at Sacred Heart Hospital about six hours after the crash.

About 3:27 p.m., 73-year old Henry Simpson of Pensacola was traveling north on Davis Highway when he ran the red light at the intersection in his 2005 GMC Envoy, trooper said. Simpson’s vehicle struck Bonds’ van on the driver’s side.

Bonds was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 9:12 p.m. Simpson was transported to Baptist Hospital with serious injuries.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and both men were wearing their seat belts. Any charges in the crash are pending the outcome of a traffic homicide investigation, according to FHP.

I had the pleasure to work with Chip on several occasions over the past year as he supported emergency services call centers. He was a dedicated professional and pleasure to work with. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and coworkers and my deepest sympathies to his lovely fiancee. May the love love and support you have together see you through this difficult time.

    Rest in Peace Mr. Bonds

Age doesn’t make a bad driver..I have seen 20-30-40- year olds do the same stupid thing. A lapse in judgement does not make a murderer. At 73 yes he should be evaluated after such a tragedy. My prayers for the Bonds family and friends.

Rest in Peace…my thoughts and prayers to family and friends. I find it shameful to see people seemingly blaming the victim instead of the person at fault. Sounds much like liberal logic to me.

A murder charge requires intent. There was none in this case. Grounds for vehicular manslaughter – possibly. Medical condition or not – I strongly suspect age was a big factor. Cognitive abilities such as discerning speed/distance decrease. Reaction times slow. An individual can become momentarily overwhelmed with a split second decision and react incorrectly. Annual driving road tests for individuals above 65 should be mandatory – in my opinion. My prayers go out to Mr. Bond’s family and friends. May God give them strength in this time of sorrow.

I think charges should be made to the other driver vehicle homicide

Some of you people saying people shouldn’t be in a hurry to go once light turns green are ridiculous. The person that ran the red light sounds like the one that was in a hurry. If he had no medical issues then indeed he should pay.

It was my uncle. No matter if he meant for it to happen or not he needs to be held accountable. If your a certain age your saying just give him a pass and its ok. NOT. what if this was your family. He was in the wrong. And he didnt have a medical condition. He sis it now he needs to pay. Murdee no, but manslaughter absolutely.

    >>I was at the intersection at the time of the crash I was north bound waiting on the light the driver that cause the crash was south bound not north bound

    The FHP report states northbound.

Without a doubt that driver who has to beat the light will be stopped at the light ahead. We end up directly behind them too. Coming home to our families should be the goal. The other drivers have families too, let’s try to remember that. There is no place to speed to anyway!

I agree with Bob….take your time and pay attention to others on the
road just because it’s green doesn’t mean go….don’t be in such a hurry

Murder, I’m very sure a 73 year old didn’t wake up in the morning and decided to run a red light and have someone die .Just maybe, he had a medical condition at that time.

Prayers for Mr. Bonds family and friends. Too sad a tragedy.
Prayers for Mr. Simpson and family and friends. A heavy burden to carry forever.

Please, WAIT a few seconds at Any traffic light in our area to make sure nobody is trying to beat the light or is distracted in their driving.
People are in such a rush nowadays…nothing is worth more than getting to your destination safely and without harm to another.

Hold the driver accountable for his actions. No excuses not to pay attention when your on the road. It is MURDER, NO EXCUSES, if you have a license to drive, you should be held accountable. I feel for the Mr. Bonds family members.
