A fire at an Escambia River Electric Cooperative substation in Jay Sunday morning has left the area without power.

The fire was quickly contained, and crews are working to restore power as soon as possible to about 2,500 customers. The entire substation is without power.

A regulator and circuit breakers failed causing an arc which spread to other equipment causing the fire and power outage, according to EREC spokesperson Sabrina Owens.

A mobile substation is being brought in to restore power. It is anticipated that power will be restored by early evening.

There was work being done to that sub station not very long ago. Like a week or two ago. Looked like they were doing work on the same line of transformers. Could that have been part of the problem? Faulty equipment that was repaired or faulty workmanship? I am no electrician but looks like to me it was more than what they said. There are still ongoing issues of the MAJOR power surges that occurred even at the school with computer systems. Good job Trans-Power that services that set of Transmission Lines!!!!

Mary, what exactly would you need a power outage adjustment for?

I’m thankful that no one got hurt
Helping get our power back up and
Going. But just looking at photos it
Seems more then a simple circuit
Arcing. Also I’m very thankful for the
Out of state help we got. So can we
Look for a 8 hour power outage
    Adjustment????
