When Is 1st Period? Not When You Think At Ernest Ward Middle

January 4, 2016

Answer quick…when is first period at school? At the beginning on the day, you say? Not beginning Tuesday at Ernest Ward Middle School.

Beginning Tuesday, students will attend their classes in the following order: 6, 7, 3, 4, 5, 1, 2.

School officials say it’s a way to alter the school day and keep it fresh for students.

For more information, call the school at (850) 327-4283.

I am personally a student at Ernest Ward. What teachers and other faculty don’t realize is that most of the students disagree with this new schedule change. We as the student body feel that we had gotten the hang of our classes and timing throughout the day and then we had to suddenly learn a new schedule. Now some students have classes in the morning that they really need to focus in and they are half asleep when it comes time to start class. I personally and most other students would prefer our schedules to remain the same prior to Christmas break.

Thank you for the support on here….to the rest let me say, students with IEP’s, 504’s, or nothing get a chance to have the last two periods the first two in the morning. As an educator for 26 years, everyone and I mean Everyone is tired by the end of the day. Then on the other hands you have kids who are not morning kids, so,this helps both. Other schools that have done this, have proved it helps everyone. The students were excited about this before Christmas break…….
Again thank you to those who support our school!!

My students attend their classes in a different order each day.
    (M & W) 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
    (Tu)4th, 1st, 2nd, 3rd
    (Th) 3rd, 4th, 1st, 2nd
    (Fr) 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 1st
This is in Tuscaloosa. The students understand their schedule better than the teachers do.

School kids adapt to changes much better than most parents.

Our kids have been doing this for years and they love it….If they have PE first period later in the year it will be the last period of the day…The kids adjust to this very fast and look forward to not always having reading, math, etc first thing in the mornings…

What about the students that have IEPs??? Especially if their schedule is set a certain way as part of that. This can have a very bad effect on them. I get the idea……but it can’t work for all. Deffinately have to call in the AM
