Powerball Fever Sweeps The Area As Jackpot Climbs
January 9, 2016
The Powerball jackpot for tonight’s drawing is at $900 million — the largest lottery jackpot in American history. And those numbers may grow on Saturday.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338. But someone has to win, right?
And those big dreams of winning have led to lines at lottery retailers across the area. And at the state line on Highway 97 in Davisville, those big dreams have led to traffic congestion and even longer lines being just a short distance from Alabama, one of just a handful of states that does not play the Powerball lottery.
There are three lottery retailers just south of Atmore in Davisville — the Grey Goose package store, a Diamond gas station and, just a few feet from the Piggly Wiggly grocery store - the State Line Gift Shop. Back in April, Alice Dawson of Monroeville, AL, purchased a Quick Pick Powerball ticket at the State Line Gift Shop. And she was that someone — purchasing the only winning ticket that week for the $80 million drawing.
The winning numbers will be drawn at about 9:59 tonight, with the cutoff time for ticket sales at 9 p.m.

MY HOPE IS IN JESUS…..I AM ALREADY RICH
The one thing nobody can take away from you is your dreams. So DREAM ON PEOPLE DREAM ON
Buying a ticket is about optimism and hope. Its fun to dream and believe in magic. The whole county is playing and dreaming together, it is uniting us even for a short time. What are you hoping for? I encourage you to notice it and even if we don’t win big think about what we may can do in our lives anyway. What would you do with a win?
@john-i get what you mean but if $2 is gonna cause someone from paying a cell phone bill or get gas then theres something else going on
Hope someone local wins. @John Rodney probably would have ended up that way rich or poor.
2.00 for a ticket…. Won’t make or break you!!
John… I don’t think 2.00 will make or break a person. It only costs 2.00 for a ticket!!! Lol
@john relax and let people have there fun. And as for Rodney king he was a idiot when he was poor and he was a idiot with fifty million.
You 99%ers just remember when y’all take that (one) individual and make him super wealthy and you have less money in your pocket to pay your iPhone bill, of can’t put gas in your vehicle, just remember you did it to yourself don’t blame some else because of your hypocrisy, now not knowing how to manage you finances and the desire to want more has put you in this situation. And also gaining all that wealth often brings a whole new set of problems. Look at Rodney King, he got beat up by cops, got 50 million, and at the end they found him at his mansion floating face down in his swimming pool full of cocaine!!!
