No Saturday Powerball Winner; Jackpot Soars To $1.4 Billion

January 10, 2016

No one managed to win Saturday’s historical $948.8 million Powerball, so now the lottery jackpot has surged to a mind-boggling $1.4 billion for Wednesday…a new record. The lump sum option is estimated at $868 million, minus taxes.

The winning numbers draw Saturday night in Tallahassee were 32, 16, 19, 57 and 34. The Powerball number was 13, with a multiplier of 3.

The odds of winning the jackpot still stand at 1 in 292.1 million, regard less of the prize payout in the multi-state lottery. Powerball is played in 44 states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgins Islands.

It’s not played in Alabama, and that leads to lines, packed parking lots and traffic congestion in Davisville, on Highway 97 just south of Atmore, AL.

Wendell as you become older and experience more, I am sure that this will pale in comparison.

Look on the bright side, I stand a better chance of being eaten by a shark, struck by lightning or space junk, than I do winning the lottery.

Congratulations to the one that will eventually win.
60% goes to taxes straight off the top.
Then, you pay TAXES on everything you buy.
Then, you will be taxed at 60% on the rest, every year until it is all gone in TAXES !!
    Sounds like fun

@429SCJ, that is the creepiest set of desires I have ever heard.

I can’t believe people stand in line to give away money.

@Bill, do not be so hard on John. A two dollar chance on a 1.2 billion payout is something even a scratchie fiend despising person such as myself will put money on.

I would consult with lawyers as my first action upon winning. It would be wonderful to be able to set up a foundation and be a philanthropist. A trust for my Children.

A Baptist Tabernacle, a rural nightclub with it’s own private drag strip/runway and a home for wayward women are high on my list also.

That’s a pretty good business… people lined up to give their money.

    I agree with John.

@john yesterday you were telling people how dumb they were for playing and now you telling them how to spend there money. You don’t really know what you believe in do you?

    @ Steve…..Me too.
Guess folks feel like the stores closest to the state line are the luckiest.
Where I got mine there was no line for tickets but the clerk said they expected a rush just before the selling time closed.

Will be interesting to see how high the prize goes between today and Wednesday night…..Good Luck to US.

I wouldn’t recommend the Lottery as the best way to invest or build for retirement. But at 1.3 billion, I’ll buy a ticket.

The stores around Pine Forest and 9 mile and both interstate ramps were packed full lines out the door if they sold lottery SMH!!!!

It so funny to see people wait in LONG LONG lines for hours. I guess they think only
the stores right across the line in Florida are the only ones who sell tickets. I drove 5 minutes past the long line and bought 5 non winning tickets with no wait.

For whoever wins, if you were wise the first thing I would purchase is a Pass-Port and a stable overseas bank that the government couldn’t touch.
